Probably Durbin, but Byron Dorgan would be ideal.

For some reason my gut tells me Schumer, which is funny because he's my least favorite of the four.

Out of those listed, probably Schumer, though I myself would prefer someone else, say, Russ Feingold (he just seems the type to me), but someone like Byron Dorgan could be interesting.

There are several Senators senior to Reid that seem plausible to me.  What about Leahy or Kerry?

Schumer or Durbin.  Either one would be a bigger thorn in the Republicans side than Reid is.

They both Chair major Committees (Judiciary and Foreign Relations); they won't give up those jobs for the thankless task of Majority Leader.

Chuck Schumer would be the natural successor to Harry Reid, with Dick Durbin as Whip.

I'd think Durbin would be the natural successor, since he is currently the Whip.

Both are plausible to me, I would rather have Dick Durbin to help out the state of Illinois and Obama would want Dick as well.

I was going to say this.

Trouble is, he hasn't made jack sh**t happen on health care with a Democratic Senate ......honestly, I don't think he has the capital right now to demand it.

I chose Durbin, but now that I think about it, the party might be wary of concentrating too much power in Illinois.

more specifically, Chicago.  It's not like they're even from different areas of the state.

Haha, that's right. Durbin's from Springfield. I temporarily forgot about that, actually.

really?  I did too.  I just assumed he was from Chicago.

Honestly Springfield isn't much better though, as far as the Chicago machine/corruption image goes though.  Durbin has this cute babyface though, he doesn't look too mean....Schumer has a far less moderate image, despite him having a lot of alliances with recent moderate members...I mean, McConnell aired antisemitic ads in kentucky last time around with Schumer cackling over some money or some shiz like that

I voted for Chuck Schumer. He has the most ambition out of those mentioned and, seeing his work first hand, the most power over Senate Democrats. I can see Durbin retaining his position as Majority Whip.

I think you should change the thread title from "If" to "When".

Reid seems to have totally lost what political acumen he had.
