The 3rd day of filing again adds no statewide candidates and only a handful of new congressional ones.

In CD-12 Rodger W. Jennings filed for the Green Party

In CD-13 Scott Harper is trying for a second time as the Democratic opponent to Judy Biggert,

In CD-18 Aaron Schock is running for reelection for the GOP

Thanks, I've updated my master list above.

Rickey Hendon filed for Lt. Governor and IL-07. What gives?

In IL you cannot be on the ballot for more than one race, but you have a week after the end of filing to withdraw from races to reduce the number to one. This is most frequently used by Cook County judicial candidates who will file for multiple opening, then negotiate with the other candidates to determine who will run for which spot. It also works in a case like Sen. Hendon's where Cong. Davis' intent to run for Cook County President or stay in for reelection is not clear.

I've updated the first post now that filing has closed. As expected there were a lot of filings on this last day. I've posted the next key dates on the statewide thread.

On the Dem side Hoffman is also considered a serious challenger. He was Daley's inspector general for Chicago, and is considered ethically clean. He's attracted some significant support, but his name recognition is still weak. The next few weeks will determine if he can be viable.

Kirk is currently the runaway favorite on the GOP side. Hughes is the best placed conservative alternative in the suburbs, and Lowery has some base downstate. Neither appears likely to gain any traction before the primary, though a lot of conservative outlets will do their best to change that.

Danny Davis is announcing this morning that he is indeed keeping his safe house seat and running for reelection in Il-7.  It will be interesting to see what result this has on all the other candidates who filed to run in the Democratic primary.  Should they all drop out, Davis will be a shoo-in for reelection.

The Alderman, State Senator and State Representative all withdrew.

I've updated the list to reflect the objections that have been resolved and other withdrawals. In particular the GOP primary for CD-14 has become much clearer as all but Hultgren and Hastert have withdrawn.
