I wouldn't say this is the death of moderate Republicans unless, of course, many of the moderates running in 2010 suddenly begin losing their primaries to their far right opponents. Scozzafava was "nominated" by back room dealings, so her drop out and subsequent endorsement of the Democratic candidate was not as bad as people made it out to be. Next time, they need to hold a primary rather than having the Conservative Party and GOP split off from each other.

Besides, from what I hear, she may have been to the left of Owens on a whole host of issues, including economic ones, an issue very important to me and other moderate Republicans.
