I've had slightly too much fun reproducing parts of a certain unintentionally hilarious chapter about the Manchester Irish from The Condition of the Working Class in England. But I've not brought up the punchline (so to speak) yet.

Here it is, then: his longtime partner (Engels didn't approve of the institution of marriage) Mary Burns was... Manchester Irish.
