Justice Dept. Asked For News Site's Visitor Lists

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/09/taking_liberties/entry5595506.shtml?tag=mncol;txt

The correspondence between the US Attorney's office and the woman's lawyer is clickable in the article and is very telling......how often does a US Attorney back down?

And please tell me why I should hate Obama's Justice Department less than I hated Bush's (which I did hate)?

It's wrong now.  It was wrong under Bush.  I'd like to see the Democrats admit that under Obama it's just as bad as under Bush.

That's pretty bad, though I wouldn't go blaming Obama quite yet. His administration hasn't even been around for a full year yet, so it's unlikely all of the Bush era employees (and therefore their way of handling things) have been removed. How the new higher ups in the DoJ handle this now will be a better sign of whether they approve of this type of action or not.

In other words, keep your eye on 'em.

Looks like the higher ups were not aware of this. Troubling nonetheless.

Thanks my friend, and thanks to sbane for pointing out what I missed.  If this is a leftover US Attorney......they and the whole career staff in that office need to go.

You're absolutely right, GG: It's wrong either way and needs to be corrected.

I guess the big difference I can see is that it apparantly was unkiwn to the higher up Obama appointees and presumbaly (hopefully) will be corrected. The Bush White House, with their crazy ass "unitary executive" and obsessiveness over secrecy to avoid political embarassment in the name of "national security" would fight repeal of this rule tooth and nail. At worst the Obama administration can be faulted for not cleaning out the Bush holdovers fast enough.

Call it "Change that isn't coming fast enough for my taste but I'm passibly satisfied with for now"

Glad to see people are seeing the light.  Hopefully Richardson challenges Obama in the primaries in 2012.

It's similar, but I'd argue it's a tleast slightly better.

I seem to recall Democrats manufacturing a bogus "scandal" when President Bush tried to do just that.  Heavens forbid a US Attorney be sacked because he's not on the same political page as the administration!  Quick!  Call Chuck Schumer! There's a TV camera to grandstand on!

The US Attorney's office should be nonpartisan.

The US Attorney's office should be nonpartisan.

Most of the Executive level of government should be nonpartisan, but that's never going to happen.
