After his massive result in 2007, President Jadot though he had a strong mandate to reform all the military and police institutions.

He planned to dismantle the Direction Centrale du Renseignement Intérieur and the Direction du Renseignement Militaire. He started to downsize the army in a big way.

But he made a big mistake when he designated José Bové as the new "police" ombudsman and when he cut diplomatic relations with Russia and Japan over nuclear issues and recycling of nuclear waste. Relations with the UK and Germany were worse and worse over energy and electricity issues.

Inside, a big part of the Socialists then joined the right and even some of the Greens (around Jean-Vincent Placé, the increasingly authoritarian Minister of the Interior) to contest President Jadot's mandate.
Outside, the United States were outraged about this weird French behaviour.

A sort of a consensus then let General Fabien Sitterlin, chef d'état-major des armées, grasp the power in the morning of 2010, January 1st.

With small units of the 8th "régiment parachutiste d'infanterie de marine (RPIMa)" and of the "groupement d'intervention de la gendarmerie nationale (GIGN)", he swiftly took the Elysée palace and arrested President Jadot on the ground of high treason charges.
He also put in jail Prime Minister Vincent Peillon, Foreign Minister Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Defence Minister Christophe Caresche and Energy Minister Alain Lipietz.
He disbanded the National Assembly, the Senate and the Constitutional Council.

He wisely let Jean-Vincent Placé as the Préfet de Police of the newly established CFRN.

The "Comité Français du Renouveau National (CFRN)"Sad

General Sitterlin is the secretary of the CFRN, with Alain Juppé as its formal head.

Gérard Longuet is the new Security Minister.
General Alain Duran-Combret, commander of the DGSE, is the new Defence Minister.
Eric Woerth is the new Economic Emergency Minister.
Michel Barnier is the new Foreign Affairs Minister.
Manuel Valls is the new Energy Minister.
Chrsitine Boutin is the new Social Affairs Minister.

The heads of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Gendarmerie, the DGSE, the National Police and the DCRI are the other members of the CFRN.

The CFRN is the real centre of power, with General Sitterlin its real leader.

A new interim head of state, a "Consul", as France is now a Consulate, is nevertheless designated, to present a fine face in France itself and abroad, along with Michel Barnier, who is here to appease foreign relations.

The Consul is Valérie Pécresse.

Vive le Consul ! Vive le Consulat ! Vive la Patrie !

A new "Conseil des Lois" of 5 members, headed by François Fillon, take the legislative power.

Consul Pécresse with Law Council President Fillon, using the new political screening glasses, that make sarkozystes appear in red, making it easier to arrest them.

A new Congrès pour le Salut de la Patrie, led by Jean-Frédéric Poisson, is used as an "Assemblée constituante", in charge of writing a new Constitution.

Regional governors are designated to keep public order:
- North West (Bretagne, Pays-de-la-Loire, Basse-Normandie, Haute-Normandie): Philippe de Villiers
- South West (Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, Limousin, Poitou-Charentes): General François Dessertines, commander of 11th Airborne Brigade
- South East: (PACA, Languedoc-Roussillon, Corse): Guy Teissier
- North (Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Picardie): General Jacques Trochard, commander of 2nd Armoured Brigade
- East (Alsace, Lorraine, Champagne-Ardenne, Bourgogne, Franche-Comté): General Pierre Lemain, commander of 7th Armoured Brigade
- Centre-East (Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne): Alain Marleix
- Ile-de-France: Jean-François Copé

Oddly, the CFRN  and the new Consulate regime are quite popular.

The political parties are abolished and some old politicians (Dominique de Villepin, François Bayrou, Ségolène Royal, Bertrand Delanoë, Marielle de Sarnez, Marine Le Pen, Olivier Besancenot, Jean-Louis Debré) put in jail, awaiting their trial for high treason, with death penalty (temporarily re-instituted) in sight.
Some others have fled abroad: Nicolas Sarkozy in Liechstenstein, Martine Aubry in Laos, Jean-Marie Le Pen in Slovakia, Brice Hortefeux in Singapore, Rachida Dati in Libya.

A new era is on ! Vive le Consulat ! Vive la France !

Consul Pécresse praying for the salute of France.

Consul Pécresse announcing that death penalties for traitors won't be commuted.

Dominique de Villepin, François Bayrou, Ségolène Royal, Olivier Besancenot, Marielle de Sarnez, Marine Le Pen and Jean-Louis Debré will be executed on February, the 1st.

Bertrand Delanoë has been condemned to life in prison, like Nicolas Sarkozy, in his absence.

Rachida Dati, Martine Aubry and Brice Hortefeux have been condemned to death in their absence.

A new era is definitely on !
Hail General Sitterlin !

General Sitterlin formally saluting Consul Pécresse.

It's your fault ! Wink
To get rid of the latest Green president, I had to take power... Wink

BTW, Massu had really la gueule de l'emploi to become a coup-monger. But, though, he was a real loyalist (extremely loyalist, even to keep public order...).
Massu was a real soldier, I think (I don't like him at all, make no mistake). Bigeard was more a joke and a less controlable one...

When I said that Pécresse doomed his mind...

Haha, amusingly that's certainly one of the worst politician I know, she seems to be a synonym of rigidity, anyone already saw her meetings in Ile-de-France??

The only way for Pécresse to lead the country is to take the control of the army, yeah, that's her way, she would fit better in the military mind, as i already said once, she's a soldier, not a bad one but a soldier, her only chance is to become a putshist general...

Haha, Pécresse in Suprem Général, maybe a new fantasy for Fabien...

You've understood that Pécresse is only formally in charge ?

I AM really in charge, through the horrible face of Massu and the fake name of Sitterlin. Just fine to see Pécresse in front of me during regular meetings Wink.
Juppé, Woerth and Longuet do the everyday job around me...

Oh, that was just ideas I had when I was 11 or 12... (of course, there wasn't any Pécresse at all at the time !)
A the time, 1981-82, I was a young socialist (if we can have real political ideas at this age) but I was already fond of dictatorships (historically speaking, of course !) and I imagined a military coup against Mitterrand, but with Hernu and Chevènement supporting the generals !

Fun, seems that yungies are enough easily fascinated by dictatorship, a small brother of mine was like that too, attracted by this, well, in the same way you are, not seriously, but still. Eh, if we extend it a bit seriously, in an epoch in which people stay long time in the teenage mood... Surprise Not that I really try to build an argument or open a debate here, the idea just passed to my mind.

Pécresse just to execute the order?? She will be perfect.

Oh no, you're perfectly right. Listen again to Desproges' chronique de la haine ordinaire on the youth...

The problem is indeed that many don't grow up. Never.
And, here, in Atlasia, you've got many examples ! And from really all parties. Same dictatorial behaviours (of course, not professed dictatorial ideas... but...)

Yeah, perfectly true. Though it's most dictatorial in the "Banana republic" sense than in the totalitarian one.

Euh, i'd say it's more in the simplistic and and maybe brutal sens before everything. An attraction for the kind of stuff Fabien described in this thread. "I wipe out everybody, am the chief, shut up", that sens.

No, that's much more a kind of complicated and obscure system of relationships, close to mafia. "I will make you win in October", "You'd better have me as your frien than as your enemy and so forth...
