He will beat Jim Gibbons in the primary, that's for sure.  Are there any big name Democrats who have announced a campaign?

By the way, his campaign website reminds me of Obama's:

I'd say they are pretty good. He seems extremely likeable and charismatic. Back in 2002, he won the AG position with over 58% of the vote, so Nevada knows him. With Reid struggling to keep his Senate seat, Republicans could do extremely well in Nevada.

Because they're different people with different records and different backgrounds and different campaign strategies?

Sandoval looks like the favorite at this point. Baby Reid says daddy is going to drag him down on the ticket, and Daddy Reid says Baby Reid is going to drag him down.

Ronnie,

Nevada state government is a fiscal disaster which is likely to only get worse for the next two to five years.

Let the Democrats have control, they'll simply engage in extensive tax increases, which will remind everyone why they won't vote for Democrats in the future.

That's a good point, but Democrats could cause significant damage to Nevada in the mean time.

Rory Reid will blow it for the Dems, because nobody else will run against him.

Also, I believe you'll find the Republicans have been in control of 2/3rds of the state government for the past decade (up to 2008, when the Democrats won the State Senate), so who do you think is at fault for the state's problems?

Why, those socialist dems of course. They're ruining everything, you see.

Nevada is the perfect example of how low-taxes and less regulation can lead to damaging consequences to local economies in the long-term. Without any focus on sustainable growth, Nevada will struggle economically in the future no matter who is in charge. But I don't think that the whole government-stay-out view works as we have seen through the deregulation policies that led to such damaging results in the South and West.

Without any focus on sustainable growth, Nevada will struggle economically in the future no matter who is in charge. But I don't think that the whole government-stay-out except for federally funded water projects, military bases, sub-market grazing and mining rates on federal lands, and nuclear testing facilities, plus BIA assistance to reservations, oh, and can we get some funding for new roads please? view works as we have seen through the deregulation policies that led to such damaging results in the South and West.

Corrected to reflect the "individualistic" spirit of the typical "anti-big government" Nevadan. Though in fairness this attitude, sadly, probably applies to a majority of Americans all across the country.

So...the model should be California and New York?

Budget-wise, the state I live in is quite screwed in many ways.

The economies of the interior west, being not that diversified, have always had a kind of boom-and-bust character, although traditionally it's been overdependence on commodities rather than housing to blame.

The odd thing is that the economies of the Mountain West, are clearly in the best shape right now, and that would even still be the case if commodities were to head downhill.

2010 NV Governors Race (Brian Sandoval) is similar to 2006 AK Governors Race(Sarah Palin).

In Alaska-2006- Frank Murkowski- who was then a highly unpopular and controversial  Republican Governor badly lost in the GOP primary to Sarah Palin-who is the outsider seen as the rising star. Palin defeated Democratic nominee-Tony Knowles-who was a 2 term Governor in the general election.

In Nevada-2010- Jim Gibbons-like Frank Murkowski- is a highly unpopular and controverisal Republican Governor facing re-election. He will lose in the primary to Brian Sandoval-who like Sarah Palin is seen as the outsider and a rising star-until the 2008 Presidential campaign which she turned out to be a nutcase. Regarding the general election. Sandoval will probally defeat Reid but will have a tough time against Oscar Goodman.

Oscar Goodman isn't running as a D, he is running as an I. Split the Dem vote and the GOP wins easily.
