Are all the numbers we are seeing now just exit poll numbers or are these actual results?

No, they are projections by 2 polling institutes for 2 TV stations, based on a chunk of already counted precincts. The more precincts are counted, the more reliable these projections will get.

That said, German exit polls are usually extremely accurate, compared to a lot of countries.

Looks more and more like the SPD will get about one seat more than the CDU - that means Kraft becomes Premier! :-)

The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger says that district results will start coming in in about 45 minutes.

I suppose 5-6% of first time voters also voted for the Pirates, because 15% of this group doesn´t show up in this exit poll.

Haha. Was there even a Hessen recount in 2008 ?

(PS: I think German elections are perfect enough to avoid something known as "recount")

Don't think there ever was a recount....but it's not even that important in a proportional system whether it's 0.1% more or less (usually).

Certainly not a recount in the British or American sense. They do a sort of canvass of suspicious results (although I've noticed some obvious howlers in final precinct results over the years Roll Eyes ) and it happens from time to time that these actually lead to a change of a seat or so.

Funny how Merkel was so popular while she was locked into a grand coalition with the FDP - but now that she has what she always wanted - a majority with the crackpot FDP - suddenly no one likes her anymore.

What is the moral of this story?

CDU   34,3

In both projections (ARD+ZDF) have the SPD and the Greens a majority with +1 seat

Still no district results ... Sad

In Austria, every town would be counted by now (I know you have 2 votes, but we also had 80% turnout 2 years ago) ... Wink
