I think its a little early predicting states, some of which have been close in the past when we don't even know the candidates, much less the state of the economy in 2008.

Two interesting issues are not receiving sufficent attention by the 'chattering classes' at this time, but, seem to me to loom large in 2008.

The 'affirmative action' preferences/quotas of the Democrats are really eating away like acid in that party.  Even a majority of self-described liberals are unhappy with the preferences.

The Republicans have their own problem with 'imigration.'  The Republican voters are overwhelmingly rejecting the national party's emphasis of not enforcing immigration laws.

Neither party wants to change its position to reflect the will of the people.  It would be interesting to see a Perot type effort in 2008 emphasizing enforcement of immigration laws and elimination of preferences.

still think that about MN? Wink

once again, we picked up 13 state house seats this election. Pawlenty probably produced a lot of sweat that night.

What happens in 2008 will largely depend on who the Democratic and GOP nominees are and their ideological orientation

Nevertheless, it's true that states are demographically trending towards one party or the other. The advantage would seem to be with the Republicans (for the time being anyway)
