Typical Democrats don't vote to permanently completely repeal the estate tax so that Paris Hilton doesn't pay a dime when she inherits.

To be fair to Baucus (barf), it wasn't really an affair; both had separated from their spouses at the time the relationship began.

Oh, weak.  Looks like we'll not get rid of Baucus then.

I have no problem with this, and I doubt that it will be enough to remove Baucus from office next time around.

The article I saw (just a NYT e-mail alert) didn't call it an affair - only a relationship.

I agree that Baucus should never have done this: even the appearance of impropriety lends itself to being exposed in this way.  Just out of sheer curiosity:  Is it an official ethics violation to nominate a girlfriend for a post like that?  I'm sure it is one to nominate an immediate family member, a relative, a business associate or government vendor, ect.  But unmarried romantic partners might not be covered by the official ethics rules.

By the way, what kind of self-respecting elderly Powerful Man has an affair with a middle aged attorney?  Why not get some pure eye-candy/sex-talent, preferably teenaged?

Oh I forgot, the Bad Place again.

Why? Why should the woman be punished for sleeping with Baucus? He put her name on a list with 5 other people and a third party affirmed that she was qualified for the role when they placed her on the three-person shortlist presented to the President. What heinous crime has been committed here?
