Perez was the Democratic boss- actually, dictator- of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes in Louisiana from 1919 to his death in 1969. There were lots of politicians like him across the South, of course, but he was in a class of his own- a Sam Spade Democrat, if you will. He frankly admitted to rigging elections and stole millions of dollars from the government over the years, and politically...

Perez on the civil rights movement: caused by "all those Jews who were supposed to have been cremated at Buchenwald and Dachau but weren't, and Roosevelt allowed 2 million of them illegal entry into our country."

Perez on school integration: "Don't wait for your daughter to be raped by these Congolese. Don't wait until the burrheads are forced into your schools. Do something about it now."

Perez on blacks: "Do you know what the Negro is? Animal right out of the jungle. Passion. Welfare. Easy life. That's the Negro."

Perez on the Catholic Church (after being excommunicated): "A front for clever Jews."

His reign produced some "interesting" election results, as well. Perez supported Ike in 1952, so Eisenhower won 93 percent in Plaquemines- his best showing in the nation, and the first time a Republican had carried the parish since Reconstruction. results from the last decade of Perez rule-

1960: Unpledged 65%, Kennedy 21%, Nixon 14%
1964: Goldwater 86%, Johnson 14%
1968: Wallace 75%, Humphrey 13%, Nixon 11%

What do you think of this guy?

No, it's a Spanish name. There was some Spanish immigration to Luisiana when it was a Spanish colony. These people were quickly integrated into the general Creole (original meaning) population under the pressure of immigration from the older United States. Hence, some Spanish surnames among Louisiana French.

Might as well have been a Nazi.  Glad the Catholic Church did something right excommunicating him!

So he immigrated from Hispania, so that makes him not Hispanic?

And I was just talking about how ridiculous that label was...

He didn't. A direct male-line ancestor several centuries before did.

Wow, you're a genius, Xahar.

I see that you need an image to tell people when you're being sarcastic.

But, in that case, the post that I replied to makes no sense.
