Folks, how would think the 1976 election between President Ford and Texas Governor Briscoe would have turned out?

Assuming Carter didn't run that year.

If Carter didn't run, I'd presume Wallace would have won the nomination.

Maybe, maybe not considering Wallace's segregationist politics would have alienated majority of minority voters.

A Jackson/Brisco ticket would have been a strong one for 1976 if Jimmy Carter declined to run.

Ford.

Let's remember that Dolph Briscoe's chronic absence from the Capitol and active avoidance of other politicians led to jokes about the "Invisible Governor" and that this is the same man who once held a press conference to tell everyone he wasn't mentally ill and also got suckered into spending thousands of dollars on a European debutante ball for his daughter only to find out the whole thing was a scam.

If Carter didn't run in 1976, but I think he would have ran for the United States Senate in 1974 after his term as Georgia Governor was over and defeated Talmadge.

On Ford: he would have ran those TV ads, describing Briscoe's absence: It's 10pm, do you know where Dolph Briscoe is ?

Would Reagan have ran in 1980 if Ford had won in '76 ?
