"A political regime, having totalitarian aspirations, ideologically based on centralized government, government control of business, repression of criticism or opposition, a leader cult and exalting the state and/or religion above individual rights."

Sounds like Bush.

I don't like Bush either, but he wasn't a totalitarian. Please do use some perspective.

Bush was probably the closest to a fascist that a relatively liberal democracy like ours can see without first undergoing significant structural warping.

This is true. But the distance between him and fascism remains enormous.

There are Obama/Geithner/Bernanke policies that, in isolation, come close to fitting the bill.

LOL

Changes nothing to the sense of the comment. Confusing fascism and a ridiculously minimal regulation of the economic system is an inanity.

Ridiculously minimal?! There shouldn't even be any regulation OR government for goodness sake!

This deserves the same comment.

Is there a way to prevent every other thread from falling into an argument between Disraeli and Antonio over libertarian theory or fascism?

To shoot one of us, or to convince one of us to start a praticularly long and demanding TL/make elect one of us as Atladsian President, in order to prevent him to have any time to comment the other's statements.
