Does Lieberman even plan on running in 2012?  These last two years make it seem as though this term is his last hurrah.

One can only hope, and I say that regretfully.  I used to really like Lieby.

Ah Lieberman, you're so screwed. I will enjoy your self-destruction.

Anyway this might be a good thing after all. Obama knows that some sort of Health Care Reform needs to pass in order for him not to look like a complete looser, and if Lieberman and the Republicans keep saying no to even the most conservative suggestions eventually Obama has to do the thing he doesn't want to do and use reconciliation. If reconciliation is used we'll get a stronger bill.

Lieberman gave up on his Senate future in 2008.

Indeed he did.  He's working for employment after he retires right now, and not by MoveOn

It's fairly clear Lieberman is acting out of vindictiveness and little else.  At the time the expanded Medicare compromise was floated, Nelson, Lieberman, Lincoln and Landrieu all more or less said they wanted to see the CBO scoring on it before making a definite determination.

Lieberman, however, has now changed his tune.  The CBO report has not yet been released, yet he has already declared his opposition without even waiting to see their analysis.

Lieberman cannot be negotiated with.  There is no rational basis for his actions.

Democrats must suffer from some form of mass masochism. I can't explain otherwise the fact that they prefer to give veto power to everyn single senator instead of using reconciliation.

I guess some here will say that the press will scream bloody murder but I don't remember the Republicans caring much about that when they used the same method for Bush's tax cuts.

He's just saving the rest the blame.  They can't pass something that threatens the mafia, and since he's out anyway, they can just blame him this way.  People's outrage at the continuing genocide can be simply directed at one silly scapegoat, thus preserving the endless tango of the two party charade:  Right, Far Right, Right, Far Right....

http://www.opencongress.org/articles/view/1409-Joe-Lieberman-For-Medicare-Buy-In-Before-He-Was-Against-It

Lieberman supported a Medicare buy-in when he was running on a ticket with Gore in 2000. And he supported a Medicare buy-in back in September.

I don't think even most Republicans would be so shameless.

Now's not the time to get too emotional. To be fair, the leftists were pretty hard against Lieberman back in 2006. Now he's showing them who's boss. Ok, we get it. Don't mess with Lieberman. He's the man. The question is, now that he's got the attention he wanted, can he still be worked with?

Otherwise, the Democrats will have to try to work with Olympia Snowe.

I think this is mostly grandstanding.  In the end, it won't fail 59-41, with Lieberman in the 41.

Reid and Obama should have kicked him out in 2009 from caucus or at least strip the bastard from seniority.

Filibuster proff? Lieberman is a man you just can't work together, so it was all pointless.

I am, to say the least, displeased with him.  I rather regret defending him now.

Thank God for Joe Lieberman, William F. Buckley's second greatest legacy.  I don't care what the reason is - the fact that he opposes Obama's destruction of this country makes him the man of the hour.  The American people do not want this, no matter how much liberals twist poll numbers.  It's not just the public option, its the forced takeover of the most precious thing, our lives.  Even democrats know its bad for the country.  The bill has nothing to do with helping the country - it is about changing the political dynamic of the country from a right of center country to a left of center country.  With national healthcare, democrats can create a generation of dependent people voting for democrats.  It will not be because their ideas are popular or tenable.  They know it, thats why they are so committed to this bill.

The American people do not want this, no matter how much liberals twist poll numbers.

Just because the Right and their pet Teabaggers have demonized Health Care Reform as a whole, does not mean we are twisting poll numbers. While it is true that most Americans oppose this currently debated bill, a solid majority of Americans support a strong public option (not the chickenshit one we're not even getting). Perhaps the bill isn't LIBERAL ENOUGH for the American people.

Even democrats know its bad for the country.

Really? Mind offering up some proof? I cannot believe that Democrats are doing this primarily for their own purposes. Is it possible that maybe their doing it because that's what they promised their constituents? And please capitalize Democrats, it's still a proper noun.

The bill has nothing to do with helping the country - it is about changing the political dynamic of the country from a right of center country to a left of center country.

The United States is a center-right country? Since when? Just because a large bloc of the public identifies as Conservative does not mean they are center right. A majority of Americans do NOT believe in the "magic of the market." But then again, none of us know what constitutes a Center Left Nation nor a Center Right one, so the question is mute.

It will not be because their ideas are popular.

As I said above, the public option is quite popular among the American people. Most Americans want more Government intervention in the Health care industry, most Americans want limits on executive pay. I could go on an on. You cannot say that Keynesian Economics does not have some sort of grip on the United States.

With national healthcare, democrats can create a generation of dependent people voting for democrats.

What? The South has the largest dependency on the Federal Government and yet are one of the most Republican regions in the entire nation. Did Medicaid and Medicare create a generation of dependency on the Democratic Party? Please sir, next time review history before you spread your bullshit.

What hyperbolic bullsh**t, azmagic. No one is taking over your life. Every other advanced country has universal health insurance coverage. Are Canadians' lives controlled by the government? Japanese? French? Next thing you know, toll roads and sales taxes will be one step away from totalitarianism! I was listening to Glenn Beck the other day and someone called into his show proposing a military coup. You could tell he was serious. This guy, a junior officer in the military. A military coup over health care coverage? Are you serious?

Expanded coverage empowers people, not restricts them. It means if you lose your job, you don't have to worry about health insurance. That benefits everyone, everyone with a chance to lose their jobs someday.

The whole dependency theory of politics is bullsh**t. Seniors get social security yet they voted no more Democratic than the nation as a whole in the last election. These days they are more Republican than ever. The Red States have been getting more money from the federal government for decades, yet they still vote Red.

Of course there are valid objections to this bill, just like there would be valid objections to *any* bill. But *some* Republicans have created hyperbole after hyperbole, they have convinced themselves that this extremely compromised proposal is now the end of the world. You guys are clinically insane. It is clinical insanity. It is emotional intensity so extreme that it has seriously clouded your judgement and thinking to a degree which you do not even realize. Get some perspective. You will make huge gains in elections next year. That is how it is. Power switches between center-left and center-right. We're not like Japan or Mexico where power seems to be with one party all the time. You guys will come back.

Your hate is not going to help the country. The fact of the matter is we have to discuss and debate our problems with a thinking brain. Not just emotions and slogans like "left" and "right" and ideology and partisanship. This country is facing major problems, including a health care system that is seriously broken and getting worse. Neither party can do it alone. No one faction of the population can do it alone. Neither the far right nor the far left is being helpful.
