You and taxes

We have members from all around the US, Canada, and world. I'm curious how much you pay in taxes! I dont want your exact numbers from your tax return, rather, the tax rates where you live.

I've calculated them out for myself, here in Ontario Canada, and for a friend in Germany. Please include your local, total, sales tax rate, and your income tax brackets, translated into US dollars if possible.

Note that Ontario has a ton of brackets below because both the province and federal government charge income taxes, often at different brackets. As well, Ontario charges a surtax in income taxes, and then another surtax on top of that. All of that is shown as being different brackets.

So does that mean the top rate is 56.41% in Canada, including sales tax, and 64% in Germany?

     They have a 19% sales tax in Germany? Wow, I thought we had it bad with a 9.5% sales tax where I live.

That's a common rate around here (well as VAT which isn't quite the same thing). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAT

It was raised from 16 to 19 by the CDU/SPD coalition shortly after the 2005 election.

It's not unusual for Europe, though. Pretty average. It can go up to 25% in some countries.
