This would be a better alternative.

Isn't there a co-op in the current senate bill in place of the public option?

I really don't know, wasn't it just made public a day or two ago?

Too bad co-ops aren't really effective.

It's like the opposition to healthcare reform doesn't really care about what works or what doesn't work, it's about what sounds nice, is easy to do, or is more concerned about nebulous definitions of "personal freedom" instead of actually saving lives. This debate tires me.

Do we know for a fact that relatively cheap, high deductible health insurance will no longer be available after 2013? In other words does the Senate bill actually force me to buy more insurance than I want or need. If so, thanks a lot Democrats. Couldn't they just have required everyone to buy high deductible insurance as part of the personal mandate? (I'm guessing that would be too simple and cost effective?).
This seems like a situation where before you could just go into your local chinese restaurant and buy the barebones and inexpensive lunch special. Now, looks like we are being mandated to purchase a drink, appetizer, an entree and dessert, when all we want is the hunan beef with steamed rice lunch special for 5.75 instead of a three/four course 20$ dollar monstrosity.

I've been in a lot of Chinese restaurants I've NEVER had them try and make me buy deserts and appetizers.

Why? Because it conflicts with your ideology Tongue

2) The premiums for individuals will, of course, be much higher than those obtained to through employers - that's the reason why I referred to it as a stealth tax.  I disagree that emergency rooms will see less action - go see what happened in Massachusetts under Romney's plan.

Somehow, I feel that while designing this whole thing, no one seriously looked at how miserable the Massachusetts plan is. Only Democrats think it's working (a majority of Republicans and Independents think it's not). That doesn't bode well for what the national opinion of the Massachusetts model would be.

I don't know why Democrats here are so excited about this.  You wanted health care reform.  Instead, you got an abomination that won't do a damn thing but cost you more money.  Congratulations...?

What is miserable about the Massachusetts plan?

A majority of Republicans would oppose it on ideological grounds alone, and I'd guess that a very large majority of both Republicans and Independents in Massachusetts already have health insurance through their employers so didn't stand to be beneficiaries of the program anyway.

If it were seriously unpopular, wouldn't Cahill or Baker be running on its repeal?

Democrats know what happened the last time they were in power and tried to pass some kind of Health Care Reform.

Anything's better than a 1993-4 rerun.

President Obama has made his biggest achievement of his presidency. Probably his only big one.

Given that even his own state doesn't like the exemption Nelson carved out for it, we all can rest assured it will be taken out in the conference committee with no fear that Nelson will withdraw his support for the overall health care bill.
