Historically, Dewey had planned to inform the public that the President had known about the attack on Pearl Harbor before it was launched, and that he should instead be impeached for allowing those American lives to be lost. However, he was dissauded by General Marshall since it would tip the Japanese off that the Purple Code had been broken.
What would have happened if he had gone forward with the plan anyway? Would the course of the war change and effect the election?
