My great aunt and uncle are still alive at ages 98 and 100, respectively.

Yes, a woman named Rachel who was already in her 90's when I was little. She made it to 1999 or 2000, and she was 102 or 103. Wanna know what the weirdest part about knowing her was? Her mother was born as my family's property....

My maternal grandmother, was born in 1885 in Winterset, Iowa. I knew her quite well, and she was fascinating because her dad was a Civil War veteran, and on Sherman's March to the Sea, so I listened to a lot of civil war stories just one tongue removed as it were. She died at age 99 in 1984, still sentient. My maternal grandfather was born in 1884 in Red Oak, Iowa. I knew him barely, since he died when I was 5, but I lived with my grandparents in Iowa for 6 months when I was 4, so I knew him a little. My paternal grandparents I barely knew, but my paternal grandfather lived with us a few months when he was deep into senile dementia. He was born in 1874, and his wife in 1880, both in Brooklyn (they were neighbors actually as kids).  A guy I hiked with when he was an old man, whom my mother knew in Iowa, and moved to Sherman Oaks, CA was born around 1895 or so. The dad used to call him "the fossil."  Smiley

What year specifically were all of them born? Do you know? I'm just curious.

I'm not sure - my great aunt's friend's mom who lived in Pennsylvania was born a few years before Bob Hope, but it may have been 1899, 1900, or 1901, so I'm not sure.  But I visited her a few times when I'd go down to Baltimore to visit my great aunt.  Sadly she (the friend's mom) passed away a few years ago after suffering for about a year with dimentia - it was really sad to see how bad she ended up getting between one visit to another, but she still remembered me, and we still went out to lunch at a restaurant inside the local supermarket - it was a city with a lot of Amish people in Pennsylvania - what was the name of it - Lancaster, right.

I'm afraid not. My family didn't even set foot in this country until 1912, and my great-grandparents died in the 1950s-1960s.

My great aunts, a great uncle, a client at the welfare office.

What year specifically were all of them born? Do you know? I'm just curious.

Della - 1892
Jessie - 1893*
Emma - 1894* **
Bill - 1895*
Ada - 1898* **
Client - 1896

Except for the client, I have the Census records.

*There great uncle was killed at the Battle of Fair Oaks.  They all knew his sister, their grandmother as did my grandmother, who died in 2001.  So basically, I knew someone who knew someone that was killed in the Civil War.

Their spouses may have been as well; I knew them.

Her mother was a black?

She was black as well. She and my great grandmother grew up together, they were lifelong friends. They both passed away within a couple years of each other. She was a crazy lady, she loved Alligator soup and chewed tobacco constantly...

Wow, there are a lot of people here who know/knew someone who lived to very old ages. The oldest person I knew was my great-uncle, who was born in 1905 and died in 2002 at age 96.

Tongue

I still laugh about the time I induced my old friend Ben to be the one to put up and hold the kite in our little experiment about electricity. I did not mind him getting all the credit. I knew that I had the potential to be around a lot longer than he would turn out to be, and so well, let him be the one to take the risk in that particular risky scheme.
