Shall we just do a 'British' Parliament game?

...I mean nothing has gotten off the ground other than Joes wonderful primary sim. I had a plan in how to emulate the British system without much work and without the need for a 'constitutional convention' and all that. I'll dig it out if I can an re-post it.

The games doesn't have to be 'Britain' as such in the same way Atlasia isn't quite America. I would be willing to go retro and start in the 1970's with a big creaking welfare state and nationalised industry to give a bit of a left/right battle.

And only 3 parties - Socialists/Labour, Conservatives and Liberals

Maybe, if it can be made to work. I should note that the Town Hall, erm, 'project' isn't dead - it's being slowly created (don't have time for more than a slow creation at the moment). When the city itself is built () I'll make changes to the first set of rules, and then try to launch it, somehow.

How this particular game works...

You roleplay. Hence you are not Smid, you are, for example, George J. Kennedy. You then pick a party, say you go Tory. You then roleplay. Perhaps Smid likes alternative voting, but a good UK Tory would never go for that, so Mr.Kennedy would oppose it even though Smid supports it.

Secondly. You play as one MP, the rest of the MP's are simulated. That means if your party has 350 MPs and 5 players, than if all 5 players vote AYE on a bill, there are recorded, 350 AYE votes on that bill. This is key to killing zombies - they just plain dont matter using this system.

Elections are simulated by the Admins (Avatars / A-Team) or Avs. They Avs tend to be veteran players who are trusted. I was a former Av here, and former head Av of Politics Canada, a game no longer in existence sadly. You campaign for the votes of the simulated public, hence you must do real billboards, real speaches, and all that.

The game is driven by news, and the Avs make the news. Read the news if you plan to play!!

There are Budget Packs based on the real world budgets of this time. Changes to anything, even a slight adjustment in taxes, has realistic consequences.

The game is focused on legislation - a bit too much for my tastes - but it can be a great way to debate without having to worry about personal attacks. Since you are roleplaying, all attacks on 'you' are really attacks on Mr.Kennedy. Beyond that, if the attacks get too harsh, remember, you are in a real but simulated Parliament. If you are an arse, the media will pick up on it, and the voters wont like it.

I am Dwight Keenan (Lab) over there. When you sign up, put a party tag in your name. (Lab) for Labour and (Con) for Conservative. These are the only two open parties at the moment. For your first game I recommend picking the party closest to your real life views.

The final step is to post in the "New Players Forum". Just post a "Hello" as your topic title, and your message should say "Teddy sent me" Everybody there knows who Teddy is.

The final thing to note is that every party has a secret party forum hosted on the main forum. Strategy is discussed here, discussing these things in the open, or leaking things out of that forum, is a no-no, just like in real politics.

Sounds like loads of fun, I'll probably join up, although I'll probably leave it until after Christmas - I'm heading home for a month (until late January) and will be focusing on spending time with the family and my friends, since I don't see them much otherwise, and therefore not spending much time online.
