Just when I thought politically correct zero-tolerance policies couldn't possibly come up with anything weirder in the lack of common sense department.

(link - Army Times)

An eight-year old Rhode Island boy was sent home because of the hat he was wearing.  Kids at the school were to be meeting pen-pals from another school  and were given the assignment of making a hat for the occasion,  The boy's offense? He decided to go with a patriotic themed hat consisting of a camouflage baseball cap with two miniature plastic Army men on the brim.  Because said one piece Army men were molded with weapons in their hands, the hat was deemed to violate the school's zero tolerance policy towards depictions of weapons.

Clearly that boy will grow up to be a violent sociopath, as will any child who sees a tiny plastic gun.

Stupid.  Although, I wouldn't describe that hat as "patriotic themed" - that's kinda spinning the story a bit.

That's worse than the kids who got suspended from school for wearing American flag shirts on Cinco de Mao. How bout the kindergarten student who was suspended for wearing a plastic ax as part of his Halloween costume?

"Zero Tolerance" is one of the more sickening policies we are seeing pervade all areas of American life. People can no longer think and judge for themselves; they must follow the strict restrictions given to them by the state.

I support the policy because sending kids home from school is a treat.
