Joan Buchanan only won with 52% of the vote last time, IIRC, narrowly beating out Abram Wilson. So I wonder if the GOP can take her down. Wilson wants to run again; And I'm pretty sure that he'd win.
(Also, he's a Black Republican)

Well duh, of course every politician is going to be against it. Nobody wants to become the stoner candidate. Only if it is actually legalized this year will politicians reconsider.

Yeah, Wilson will definitely win if he runs again. I even think Mcnerney is pretty much as good as gone. There is a lot of anger around here about runaway spending. Unless the central valley somehow saves Mcnerney, he is done.

I have not been hearing about this. Do you know what the extent of this anger is? Might any other representatives be vulnerable as a result?

I'm sure there isn't a lot of anger in SF or Berkeley, but people are pissed off here in the suburbs about spending both in Sacramento and Washington. I am much more certain of Joan Buchanan's demise than Mcnerney's. Mcnerney has had a lot of the bay area's working class moving into the part of his district in the central valley. But who knows if it will be enough to save him. Another thing he has going for him is that he is running for a federal position rather than state. Certainly there is more anger towards Sacramento than DC.
Another couple of US representatives who may be in trouble are Costa (Ca-20) and Cardoza (Ca-18), but these are still longshots for the Republicans imo. I don't know if you have been following the water wars going on but it has resulted in some farms not getting much water and thus not planting as many crops. This just exacerbates the problem with unemployment in the valley and this time the Republicans could pin it on the Democrats. This could lead to a revolt among the Hispanic base....let's wait and see.

Watched the Republican gubernatorial primary debate today. I want my hour back.
Audience member asks question.
Poizner gives barely-related argument that begs the question.
Whitman responds in platitudes.
Poizner accuses Whitman of support for Van Jones and Barbara Boxer and Al Gore.
Whitman accuses Poizner of making donations to Al Gore.
Moderator asks candidates to answer the question at hand.
Candidates do not answer.

Has anyone else taken a look at the California sample ballot? It now contains all party primary ballots instead of just the relevant party. I think the new format is poorly thought out and confusing. Just another reason not to like Debra Bowen.
