No, generally. There are exceptions though (excessive force, leaving scars, etc.)

No, I've spanked kids before and sometimes they just deserve it. I wouldn't spank my daughter, but I guess I have a double standard for girls on this issue.

Under 18. Also applies to anyone non-consenting.

BTW for something terrifying check out this map:

The red states still allow corporal punishment in public schools.

I'm surprised Utah doesn't allow corporate punishment in schools. I thought Mormons liked firm discipline.

Seems to be a strong correlation with Confederacy/Union

No, but school employees shouldn't be allowed to strike students unless in self-defense.

It is disturbing that close to half the states still allow corporal punishment...

I'm a lapsed Mormon, although the vast majority of my family is not. My non-Mormon family thinks spankings are just part of child rearing; they're Southern Baptists and Presbyterians from rural North Carolina and that's to be expected. My step-dad's family is Catholic, and they spank all the time; they're Croatian and very traditional. I have lived in Utah, spent countless nights in Mormon homes, and been around thousands of Mormon families. I have rarely, IF EVER, heard of kids being spanked in Mormon households.

That's only corporate punishment in schools. I'm sure much more allow corporal punishment at home.

I'm 36 and was spanked at school in Illinois.

As for the OP, yes, of course.

Sure. I also think that socially ostracizing parents who do it is perfectly fine as well.

No.  I'm glad my parents spanked me - otherwise I probably would've been a heck of a lot more rebelious.

For kids, yes, in terms of hardcore red bottom spanking anyway.

In the bedroom between consenting adults, hell no!

Of course.  Its logical, it has been practiced with much succes for centuries and it is biblical.

It is NOT abuse.

No, though spanking that constitutes a beating should be. My parents' philosophy on the rare occasion it was necessary was "until it hurts", nothing more and nothing less, and they only used that punishment like four times. It was mainly if I had done something really bad or was being a particular brat at the time, otherwise they preferred non-corporal punishments.
