Einsehower decided to declare himself as a Democrat and win the nomination over President Truman, selecting his key supporter within a party, Senator Claude Pepper of Florida, as a running-mate.

Meanwhile, Taft won GOP nod and to balance a ticket Earl Warren became V.P. nominee.

Dixiecrat revolts still happens, but Wallace did not run as Progressive, endorsing official ticket.

November 2, 1948: Republican presidential nominee Senator Robert Taft is unable to overcome the popularity of General Eisenhower with the American people.

Dwight D. Eisenhower / Claude D. Pepper (D): 324 EV, 52.1%
Robert A. Taft / Earl Warren (R): 179 EV, 44.7%
J. Strom Thurmond / Fielding L. Wright (SR) 28 EV, 2.2%
Henry A. Wallace / Glen H. Taylor (P): 0 EV, 1.0

EDIT: Eisenhower would win New York by a larger magin than in this map, Taft on the other hand would win a larger victory in Idaho. Sorry, but right now I'm to lazy to change the map.

It would only take like two seconds to change the numbers.

No electoral majority. Claude Pepper's pro-soviet attitude would be a major handicap to Eisenhower, and it's unknown if the southern political machines would get the vote out for Eisenhower.

Ike wins. No one was going to defeat Ike if he ran in 1948, regardless of which party Ike ran in. Ike was THAT popular as a war hero.

I'm pretty surprised that Ike did so bad in 1952.
