As I watched the results come in last night, I began to think on how this will change America for the better or worse. With the Democrats taking control of the House and maybe even the Senate, what will they do? So I came up with some points of interest to me:

* Will we declare defeat and leave Iraq? A war, by the way, I did not support.

* Will a good economy continue to grow? Min-wage change? Will gridlock prevent the Congress from spending more and more money?

There were several others, but then I heard Rahm Emanuel say on ABC last night that the Republican Party is now just a southern party. I must say that I agree. Ohio made a loud statement last night. I don't see Republicans ever taking that state again in a Presidential election which means Democrats win the White House in 2008 and so on. The south will vote one way and the north, with the west coast will vote another. They should control both the executive and legislative branches in 2008.

We heard the usual reaching across the aisle and working together speak, but we all know its rubbish. Both sides claim that the other side was dividing the country and both sides were right. The hatred between the two sides has reached a point it cannot come back from. The divisions are too deep. In the history of the world and of great nations that came and went, I can't help but compare our nation with those of the past. We are in a nation currently in the last years of Union, I believe. I can't see how this country can stay together in the next 50 years. I see states like my own and others like California becoming separate nations and the US broken into four. The hate, for which I have witnessed even on this site, has boiled to the point that there will never be any kind of compromise. I just don't believe the country is strong enough to endure the vitriol held between the two sides.

I know I don't post here too much, but I read what you all post. Maybe I'm just an old man and an alarmist, but I've seen how this country has attacked itself from within in these past 40 years or so. That is how nations fall. From within. Not from an invader of a distant land, but from within.
