1.) It's Socialist.
2.) The average poor person there has no chance of ever getting out of poverty, in contrast to the wonderful opportunity we offer in the U.S.
3.) They hate freedom.

What else is there to know?

You'd think right wingers would realize that France is a mostly free market and capitalist country, from their moronic little boycotts of French goods. All of which sold in the US are made by privately owned or publicly traded companies, not some nationalized company.

Even more amusing is thinking France is some type of pacifist, hippie country. That's too stupid for words honestly. France is arguably the most imperialist country in the world today.

I read the whole post and I must say I'm once again suprised by so much dumbness. I use to have very good relationships with Vepres, and I generally find him rather intelligent. But sometimes he seems to get crazy and suddenly throws the worst sort of conservative bullsh*t.

To be fair, France does have quite a bit of unnecessary government regulation, and I don't approve of it, but that doesn't have anything to do with socialism.

Very socialist indeed, the dominant right wing party only has a majority in the National Assembly and a plurality in the Senate and has the presidency.....

Do we really need threads calling out individual posters like this?

France may like to play in its former colonies, but, haha, 'the most imperialist country in the world today' is a bit...too much. 1st I'm not sure whether we're the only one in Europe to act like that, 2nd I know a country that can teach things in term of imperialism, that one isn't in Europe, cross the Atlantic, welcome, you're at home.

Concerning the population, I'd say that yes, actually, that's rather pacifist here.

Outside of this, and from what I know of the record of Vepres, it seems to me easy to assume that he was sarcastic here, then thinking the opposite of what he wrote. Haven't seen the smiley? You may try to go further into sarcasm maybe, so that maybe one day you'd come to appreciate South Park.

I couldn't resist.
Also, I thought this thread could use a libertarianish (I'm starting to reconsider that label considering my expanding views on stuff like environmental legislation and healthcare) poster to point out how ridiculous Vepres post was. And Bon, I think he may have been implying that France is totally screwed up, so yeah sarcasm was implied, but not as friendly as you would like to think.

euh, I got very much it wasn't friendly, since it seems it was sarcastic.

Yes, but he certainly isn't alone. People who think that France is a communist country full of hippies and evil left-wingers should get some education instead of saying such stupidities. Come on.

France is so hippie and left-wing that women didn't vote until 1945.

Well, now, that the hippie stuff is brought on again, I have to give 2 words about that. Because, along with the fact the ambiance is rather pacifist/non-interventionist here, here is something of 'hippie' in the collective culture.

I mean, the Mai '68 aura has been very strong here, and we haven't had a big conservative wing to give a lot of voice against it, unlike in the US. It had been pursued with the election of Mitterand in '81, psychologically, it was a continuation, one which then gave disappointment but which had been carried with a lot of hope and with the spirit of Mai '68. And no matter the political outcomes, it continued to be present in the culture, to be seen as something positive, as something it is politically incorrect to be against.

Though, I'd say it was really the case until one decade ago. There it began to be put in question, to be relativized, to be overcome, and it reached a top when Sarkozy proposed to 'wipe out' the heritage of '68 in 2007 (haha, he is a fruit and a representation of it), the fact he had been elected mainly with voices of olds would show that there wasn't an adherence from the whole population to this. Though it is less and less trendy, seen as something that partly caused the current problems of the society. But it remained present in the cultural background during a long time and partly still is.

Indeed, which is why it surprises me that he keeps talking about it.

France is the most right-wing real country in Western Europe.

He knows little about France, yes, but I wouldn't blame him. Some people out there in my country think that Americans are all a bunch of hamburger-eating obeses, god-fearing fanatics, blooody imperialists who are so stupid that even oppose universal healthcare.

France is more right-wing than Germany. Switzerland I'm arbitrarily discounting. You're right about Ireland.

Similarly, most French know far less than they imagine they know about America.
