I know we had this question before, but that was a long time ago. I'd say No. If he wanted Hillary for VP, he would have picked her in 2008, especially when many people thought he needed her to win. As for picking Tim Kaine in 2012, I think that it is too late for that. The last time an incumbent President changed his VP before election time was in 1976, I believe.

I can't even describe how horrible such a decision would look in the eyes of the public.

He'll be kept because he knows it's essentially his political swan song.

Obama would never pick Hillary. She would have a hard time submitting to such an unnatural role for her. She's fine in charge of the State Department.

I agree. The only way he is off the ticket is if he asks to be.
I think he would only be removed if he asks to be.

No, Democrats dont have anyone else.  Tim Kaine is going to be one of the biggest losers of the Democratic party after the 2010 elections.  His career is finished.

No, there's really no good that could come out of dumping Biden for the Democrats.

It's hard to tell; He probably wouldn't be, but maybe, Obama wants to appoint an heir.

If Obama wanted to appoint Hillary as his heir, he would have done so in 2008. There is no reason why he would pick her in 2012 if he didn't in 2008. In regards to someone else, I suppose it's possible, but it might bring more harm than good and might cause many people to ask questions.

See, Vice Presidency is no longer "place for a heir" as much, at is uses to be. Look at the preceding veep.

Also, consider all of those apointed heirs, except Martin Van Buren and George H. W. Bush, failed to succeed.

I see no reason at all to drop Joe.

Only potential reasons he won't be on the ticket in 2012 are:
1. He'll be incumbent President then (Obama is not immortal and veep is heartbet away)
2. He'll step down himself due to potential health concerns

Why would he appoint Hillary? I meant someone else.

Yes, absolutely.  Bill Richardson is being groomed to the VP.  That is why they shaved him and put him on a diet.  Obama did.

Only for reasons of health -- if he is unlikely to survive into a second term.  Succession for the VP is a messy scenario.

Joe Biden is not the intended heir of Barack Obama. The American people will decide who that is.

I'd love to see Richardson up on the ticket. Biden isn't leaving it though unless its for health reasons.

Well Bayh could still be available for the ticket?  He was likely the 2nd option after Biden.

This would be a catastrophic mistake on the part of the administration. Biden isn't going anywhere, for any reason short of imminent death.

I think this has same value as rumors of Bush replacing Cheney with Rice in 2004/05/06, also somewhat popular speculation once upon a time.

Doing this would reflect very poorly on Obama short of a major scandal. I'm certain he realizes that.

No, Biden will remain Obama's VP during Obama's second term, if Obama is reelected. Though I doubt he will run for president in 2016.

Who do you think will run in 2016?
