I know FDR was disabled (even though he tried extremely hard to hide it), but when do you think the U.S. will elect its next disabled President?

I'd say after 2151.

That's what over 90% of Americans would have said in 1850 about ever having a black President.

Unfortunately the race for the presidency has become more of a beauty contest than a policy contest.

I can name from memory two politicians with disabilities: Bob Dole (paralyzed right arm) and Bob Kerrey (amputee) who had a real shot on the Presidency, and I'd not link their disabilities with loss, rather other factors.

Well, of course they were not disabled in such visible (like it would be right now, in TV times) like FDR.

Wasn't McCain also an amputee? By asking this question, I meant visibly disabled, but I guess I should have made this quesiton more clear.

This. Intelligence counts for nothing anymore. Due to the spread of the mass media, politics has had to be dumbed down and it's now a matter of making more false promises than your opponent. It's probably one of the greatest arguments against democracy.

He's disabled too. He can't for example raise his arms above the head due to war injuries, but as far as I know, he's not an amputee.

As of other presidential contenders with disabilities... Mo Udall (had one eye) or
George Wallace (after 1972).

Yeah, forgot about Udal.. He could have won in 1976 had Carter not run.
