Bush Sr. still narrowly wins. Reagan's popularity, the good economy, and lack of involvement in foreign wars would pull him through. The fact that many women would want one of their own as President would make it closer, but it would not be enough for Richards to win.

Bush/Quayle-49.03%-297 EV
Richards/Glenn-48.44%-241 EV

Side note: Bush Sr. narrowly wins California since he asks Reagan to campaign there and Reagan manages to deliver the state to Bush Sr. due to his popularity there.

Bush Sr. was from Texas, and the economy was good (while Reagan was President and Bush Sr. was VP, thus allowing the GOP to take credit for it).

Bush Sr. was not a true Texan the way Ann Richards was.

The good economy should still allow him to squeak by in Texas. I already think that Texas was trending Republican in Presidential elections at this time, and I don't see why this trend would stop, even if Richards was Governor there.
