And why?

I will admit that as a Republican I am undecided between these two. So who do you think is preferable?

And for non-Republicans, who would you support if you were a Republican?

If I were a Republican, I'd support Hutchison simply because she can't lose in the general.

Ah, yes. I'll modify my original post.

Yes, this should be an important consideration, especially since Texas is gaining all those House seats in 2012. However, Perry seems to be doing well against White in polls too (not quite as good as KBH though). One thing that bothers me is this - does Perry really deserve to be a Governor for 14 years? That's a long, long time. Another thing working for Kay in my mind is that this way her Senate seat would be open and some fresh faces would have a chance.

Speaking of fresh faces, apparently Debra Medina has done a great job in the Republican debate and is scoring about 15% in polls. So the race is not just Perry v. Hutchison.

My prediction is that Perry stili manages to takes this, given that he's the most socially conservative candidate and Republican primaries in Texas are dominated by social conservatives.

I'd support Hutchison because she doesn't talk about secession, and generally seems the more moderate of the two.

This. And also, she isn't a whacko and is generally more realistic, pragmatic if not more moderate.

I support Medina. I used to support Hutchinson but after watching the debates I changed my mind.

But I presume if there were to be a run-off, you would support KBH?

If there is a run off then I would, and if Perry ends up the nominee I'll either vote for Mayor White (D) or Jeff Daiell (L)

I'd support Hutchinson just because Perry's been in office for too long. There are currently two Governors in office who were Governor on 9/11: Perry and John Hoeven, and Hoeven will be off that list next year. There is no reason for Perry to remain.

If Texas law didn't suck and I was 18 two weeks earlier, I'd vote for Hutchison, as my parents are doing. Really, I'd try anything to get rid of Rick Perry.

Hutchinson has got to be running one of the worst campaigns I've ever seen.  When you don't run competitive races for a while, you really lose your edge.

That being said, I'd support Medina.  I don't want to pay property taxes either.

My #1 isn't up there,  but out of these two, Perry.

This is one I've been struggling with.  Perry and KBH each have positives in my opinion (their generally conservative records)  but also some large negatives.  KBH hasn't always been as conservative as I'd like and Perry's had this thing for toll roads that I don't like either.

Most likely, then, I'll vote Medina in the primary.  If there's a runoff, I may draw lots.

I like Hutchison, but I would probably vote for Rick, due to personal connections.

^^

Plus, I've heard Perry speak.  He's wacko.
