How is gunning down civilians as was done in Haditha anything other than murder?

RIP.

Because we have a culture that doesn't want to think that people serving in the military are anything other than saints(which anyone who has been in the military or spent lots of time around people in the military, especially Marines, knows is insane).

Honestly aside from Murtha's crusading against the war, I know little about him otherwise. Would our Pennsylvanian forumites like to enlighten me as to what was so bad about him?

I'll leave that to Chris, since he seems to feel the same way I do.

My favorite is the "John Murtha Airport" in Johnstown, which is built on top of a mountain, is almost completely vacant, and which three seperate studies said was impractical and would only cause a drain on the local economy... and he went ahead and did it anyway, insisting they name it after him.

I do, however, agree with Chris and George, but I don't think it is hugely appropriate to discuss it now.

BTW, I was briefly the GOP nominee against him in the late 1980's, so I probably have more reason to bitch about him than anyone.  Now now, however.

That's debatable.  When you count how many people were robbed of access to better social programs, in his district(s) because he was too busy spending his share of the pork on a new bridge to name after himself....  He also ruined alot of people's lives with his out of control attack machine.  I would actually like to hear what kind of campaign he ran against JJ, because he is widely know for destroying his "enemies"... and that is not being dramatic.

The airport does.  I was there in 1968 or 1969, seeing my father off to a meeting in Chicago. 

He didn't; I dropped out after the primary.  He was noted for the "lie big and lie often" campaign.  Really ambitious people would run against him to boost name recognition.

This is a man that "served" a very poor part of the country... but really only served himself.  I would compare him to Bob Byrd in the way he conducted business... but that would be a huge insult to Byrd.  At least Byrd has done some good things for his people, while massaging his own ego, and Byrd is not a wholly mean-spirited person.  Murtha was a pile of sh**t prancing around in a golden crown, draped in a false, self-righteous "indignation" of the little guy.
