Yeah, he wanted a government contract to go to Airbus (which has a factory in Alabama) instead of Boeing.

Or, to put it another way, Shelby held up the Senate so that he could ensure a foreign company received preference over an American one.  For national security purposes, of course.

We need to stop with the endless holds and filibusters of nominees.  I know the Dems did it back in the Bush years but it just keeps escalating.  And the Dems are going to throw it back in our faces tenfold after we win back the White House.

I feel no sympathy for Obama, Reid & Co, mind you.  They did exactly this to Bush's Circuit Judges.  They're being hoisted on their own petard and I get a certain joy watching them squeel.

But just because it fels good now to stick it to the Democrats doesn't mean its a good idea if it means that we'll be unable to govern when we get our next chance in power.

this sort of thing is asnine, and holds should be done away with. I'd also support doing away with the filibuster, or at very least actually forcing senators to read from the phone book at 3 AM as was done in the old days.

Damn.  I honestly wanted him to keep doing it.  What better way to show how the system is broken than for a whiny little baby to hold the entire system hostage so that one of his biggest campaign contributors could receive more pork?  I guess the man has half a brain enough to realize it was backfiring big time.
