1b, but could go either way I guess.

2a, for sure.

3b, duh. Who cares how big the Jones' place is, as long as I can fit a supermassive TV in my McMansion?

I'm a "B" guy all the way.  I suppose I could understand someone going with A on the second one, but only because of a weird cost of living (even though I said "all else equal").  I certainly don't understand how one could pick A for the first one...can some of you explain?

1a
2b (although, if everyone made more, and that increase costs, I'd want a).

But if you don't care, why screw others?  And you picked the "dumber" option...that's not very smart.  Unless by "I like to be smart" you mean "I like to be smarter than others".

Ignorance is bliss, Dead0man... and you'd still be smarter than everyone else.

1b, 2b, 3b

(I'm a little hung up on 1 - if everyone else in the world has an IQ of 140, I might be put in a zoo or something).

I guess I can understand wallowing in ones ignorance, but who (other than Christian Fundies) would CHOOSE to be ignorant?  It really makes no sense to me.

I don't know why anyone would choose to be the poorest or dumbest person in the world when they could be the richest or smartest. Maybe if you could choose IQ 120 and then go live on a desert island, but living in a society where everyone is smarter than you would be horrible.

1b (I'd rather be a smart than a dumb.)
2a (Simple economics: In 2a you're a rich, in 2b you're a poor.)
3b (I don't care how big everyone else's house is, I'll take the option that gives me a bigger house.)

1: B, in addition to me being smarter, society would be a lot more productive and those with high IQs usually would be able to understand those needing extra help.

2: A, in the long-term you'd have more purchasing power.

3: B, it's a lot more noticeable how much room you have in your own house, less so when you're visiting someone else's house.

Boy, these choices were not hard!  I understand that the happiness factor is associated with having more than your neighbors (there is some pretty good data evidencing that sad state of affairs), but I don't care if everybody else on the planet is Warren Buffet, and I have to just struggle along with a few lousy million. I will just have to suck it up. And I really enjoy being around people who are smarter than I. I really do. Just trust me. And yes, it does not happen too often. I might as well just be honest about that. Tongue
