A work in progress, but now transfixed by economics (which is indeed a transfixing topic), which has colored his world view considerably, as it did mine back when, when I took economics, and then in the Graduate School of Business. But then I went to law school, and that started my move towards the center. Lawyers are trained to parse all sides of an argument, and unless they are paid whores, that tends to push them a bit towards the center. Smiley

Economics is such a powerful tool in explaining how the world works, and human behavior, that it takes some care to avoid it just crowding out other considerations, that economic theory just cannot solve very well. I remember when the President of the University of Chicago (a lawyer, who went on to become attorney general under Ford), told me that he was concerned that the economics department was just crowding out other voices in that particular ivory tower, and tended to just take over everything, as it were.  It was an interesting discussion.

One piece of advice to you youngs. Attempting to get a very smart old, who knows a lot, comfortable enough, through charm or whatever, to get really candid with you about his insights, sometimes off the record, is a very worthy goal indeed. I wish I had done it more.

He might be rather similar to me, although I don't know him that well. We are both totally  Bourgeoisie and have Irish last names (but I am a WASP hehe since my surname is also common in England), and seem kind of centrist. I suspect that I am a bit more of a hedonistic rebel than he is however. Ireland still has this sense of decorum perhaps. Smiley

Too young to realize yet that he is not an ubermensch who doesn't need any government to survive. Nice enough guy though. He ranks high for me among the hardline libertarian cohort here. Smiley

A prolific poster whose posts in recent times have had their content quotient go up considerably. I am going to mark him down as an intelligent and informed young man who has a lot to say. He is beginning to settle into this place just fine. So there is hope for all you out there that are still in the forum penalty box. Tongue

A smart athletic nerd. That is an odd combo I admit. But Xahar is one of those posters I enjoy "watching" mature before my very eyes. I suspect he has the discipline to make his mark on this mortal coil.

Expired, as my Thai ex girlfriend would say.

I guess that proves hell exists, since I am still posting, doesn't it?

You had a girl friend, Opebo?  I thought you did about 5 different tricks a week (gosh I wish I were your age again!), variety being the spice of life. When was that?

Young pup, but sharp as a tack, and good humored to boot. He is also a "sensible" and "practical" conservative. Not bad at all.

Dissipated?  I know dissipated, and he's a pale substitute.

As for Torie - Death in Venice.

Are we getting a bit morbid these days, Opebo?

Well I was about to add that I haven't had a face lift or dyed my hair - yet.   But yes, I prefer them rather young. And so it goes.
