Everyone knows I hate this state, and this is largely why. Please note their laws:

-As stated before, 40s are banned.
-It's full of tons of other restrictions on alcohol sales and bars
-21 grams of marijuana is a felony. Almost twice that in Minnesota still gets you only a slap on the wrist.
-People keep saying they have lots of strip clubs, but there are crazy regulations. StatesRights was once telling me about how strippers have to wear pasties in his county. Plus I've read too many stories about county sheriffs' offices with obviously no other crime to pursue raiding multiple clubs in a night and charging any stripper who comes close to breaking any regulation with prostitution.
-Speaking of prostitution, they tend to be draconian there as well, I've read if they shut down a "massage parlor" they actually try to seek out and arrest customers in the record. In Minnesota from news stories that I've read almost no one gets arrested in such cases, not even the owners because it's difficult to prosecute. Pretty much the only people arrested for prostitution in Minnesota are people caught in stings on the streets.
-Their gambling law is draconian and basically bans everything not in their Indian casinos. Well you can play poker among friends, but it's a crime if more than $10 is wagered. Yeah seriously, $10.
-You can't sell any type of extended service plan over the phone.

Is it because of all the olds there? Even some other southern states aren't as bad, hell MISSISSIPPI is better in some aspects.

Yes, probably.

Your definition of authoritarian hellhole is... rather skewed in the wrong direction. Expressing such opinions in an actual authoritarian hellhole would get you arrested and put into a reeducation camp.

This isn't an endorsement of these laws, btw, just a recognition of certain realities.

Because Florida is ruled over by an uneasy coalition of Dixiecrats, Old People, and Cubans exiles, brought together by a common love of authoritarianism.

Well as to gambling if I were the supreme dictator, casinos would be incinerated, so that they would look sort of what Carthage looked like after the Romans were done with it (i.e. nothing would be where they were except a salt flat). So I have to give Florida an A+ on that one!  Tongue

A 40 is a 40 ounce beer. They cost $1.50-$2.50 at a gas station are one of the most cost effecient ways of getting drunk. As a side note, when I was in college, a sorority had a ghetto-themed "Shorties and Forties" party where people were encouraged to "act ghetto" (wear Tommy Hilfiger, talk loudly, etc.) It created a big outrage, and the sorority had to make this huge official apology.

But as mentioned, other southern states aren't as bad. Even Mississippi is better in some ways.

Then some liquor store is breaking the law.

Three liquor stores, actually.  The only three liquor stores I visited in the entire state, in fact.  What an odd coincidence.  Roll Eyes

That particular sorority obviously knew very little about the realities of living in the ghetto.
