The UN Human Rights Council, the biggest joke in a place full of jokes.

As the body has 47 members at any given time, one would be very hard pressed to put in place a Human Rights Council of 47 member states with solid human rights records. Such is the world we live in.

Anyway, everyone is aware that the HRC is less than it should be, in many regards. I do think though that the reports produced by rapporteurs, ultimately for the imprimateur of the HRC, can be useful.

No, it really isn't. It does a lot of important things. Of course, some parts of it are jokes, but that doesn't make it a joke.

Why should they sit on the HRC? They don't respect human rights. Just for that, they should be disqualified. Of course, I'm sure you could make the same point about the U.S.

Iran shouldn't have a seat, but neither should Israel.

or the U.S. for that matter, if that should be the case.

Because Britain supports human rights throughout the globe.

The UN, not the Human Rights Council.

Because Britain has a lot more power as a result than it would otherwise.

doesn't surprise me, the U.S. should just screw the rest of the world. It is clear that any bureaucracy outside of the US is created to bring down America. Prove me wrong.

No more absurd than the United States being on it (if it ever was on it... I don't know or care really).

No it's not. The General Assembly is, but there's a lot more to it than that.
