Somewhat artificial, even for a politician....but he's neither a horrible person nor crazy nor incompetent.

So I don't see how he can be compared to Bachmann.

I don't know much about him, but FF for being a Republican representing a Democratic district in a Democratic state I guess.

Please take a look at his record.

He is really a nut case.

He hates the right to keep and bear arms (has earned an F from the NRAS).

He voted for Cap and Tax (yeah, I know he claims he has changed his mind, but he a liar).

He supports higher taxes.

He voted for TARP.

These are the reasons Torie supports him (not suprisingly).

So why do you support this piece of slime?

He is the antithesis of Bachmann.

Look at his record.

He has a higher rating in 2008 (and previous years) from liberal organizations like the ADA than from conservative organizations like the ACU!

Get full details at Project Vote Smart.

You seem to have the misconception that all nominal Republicans are conservatives, which just is not the case.

If you ask me, he's just another fake moderate, just like John McCain and Scott Brown.

Who would be a real moderate (Republicans only) in your opinion?

Kirk's voting record was far more nuanced until he darted to the Right to run for Senate.

It's funny you said that, because I can't really think of any Republican politicians (in the House and the Senate at least.) who I would consider "moderate", since most Republicans vote with their party at least 90 percent of the time these days.

However, outside of the House and Senate, Charlie Crist and Jon Huntsman are two perfect examples of real moderate Republicans.

What about John Hoeven and Jim Douglas? Do you think they're moderate? Also, do you think Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Dewey, and Nelson Rockefeller were moderates?

John Hoeven is hardly moderate on most issues, except for on education and ethics. Douglas I suppose is somewhat moderate from what I heard, though I still need to learn more about his stances on most issues.

Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Dewey, and Rockefeller were all moderate. Of course, there is one problem...they're dead. Therefore, they don't count as Republican politicians who we have right now that are moderate. Of course, there were alot of moderate Republicans back when they were alive. But now, there are very few moderate Republicans. That's why I said "I can't really think of any Republican politicians (in the House and the Senate at least.) who I would consider "moderate", since most Republicans vote with their party at least 90 percent of the time these days." John Hoeven is pretty moderate on economic issues. In addition to spending large amounts of money on education like you just mentioned, he also spent large amounts of money on infastructure (just like Obama did with his stimulus package). In addition, he managed to consistenly maintain a budget surplus while doing it. I think that this makes Hoeven a moderate (at least on economic issues). Very few Republicans nowadays would be willing to do that. I agree about everything else that you just said and also agree with you that the Republican Party genuinely needs to return to its moderate roots in order for them to become a successful party at governing. Ever since Reagan the GOP has catered only to the rich while screwing everyone else. In addition, the GOP has also become much more fiscally irresponsible due to their massive tax cuts for the rich and large military/defense spending. Personally, I would never vote GOP for federal office unless the Democratic candidate was a major screw-up until the GOP moderates, especially on economic policy. Abandoning trickle-down economics would be a good start, since trickle-down economics played a large role in causing this current financial crisis and Great Recession. BTW, did you respond to my post on which Presidents are overrated/underrated? I think I responded to yours.
