Ladies and Gentlemen of Atlasia, I'd like to talk to you today about the budget. We live in a great nation, a wealthy nation far better off than many others. But this does not mean that we should squander our luck and the hard work of our mothers and fathers. No, we must work twice as hard, to see that our wealth is put to good use, that it is not squandered, leaving Atlasia in crushing debt.
I am reminded of the story of an Atlasian citizen who recently passed away. Genesio Morlacci came to our nation in 1921, a near-penniless Italian immigrant. In the true form of the Atlasian Dream, Morlacci worked hard and saved wisely. He didn't spend money as soon as he earned it on flashy items he didn't need, but he also didn't deprive himself of things he wanted; he enjoyed taking trips to his native Italy, where he travelled on occasion. He wasn't a Scroogish miser, either; as his well-managed finances grew, he loaned money out to friends and families who needed it. Genesio Morlacci died last month, a hardworking man, a janitor who never earned much but worked his hardest. He died, and he left the University of Great Falls 2.3 million dollars, so others could have the education he never did.
We, as a nation, should strive like Genesio Morlacci, to conserve our resources, neither being stingy nor wasteful. In a nation that brings in trillions of dollars in taxes every year, we owe $7,451,104,707,188! That is $25,269 per citizen, and that is outrageous. Every second, our foreign debts increase. Ladies and Gentlemen, we must work together to balance our budget, to free ourselves from this economic prison of our own making. Because what do we want to leave our children: The hard-earned, well managed fruits of our labour...or a crushing debt that we didn't want to pay?
Thank you all, and God Bless Atlasia.
