Like the Drug War and Prohibition, since everybody seems to have 'em anyway, might as well legalize the damn thing than have a lynching every week.

This forum is its own civil society. Socks breach the codes of behavior and tolerance that make it work. So, no.

Well the forum is a good microcosm because it isn't that civil and doesn't work that well either:)

Socks are dishonest. They are cheating. Heck I try sometimes to help out folks who seem to be flailing a bit. If we become infested with socks, and are not "talking" to real people, the ties that bind, the trust, the things that make a forum work, and create a community where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, will be degraded. In my opinion, it cannot and should not stand. The worst thing is to create a sock just to then beat them up, perhaps as a way to attack other real posters who are somewhat similar in some ways. It makes my skin crawl really if that is the M.O.
I can understand others may disagree because of the amusement value, but the long term consequences I suspect are toxic.
