What Americans want a 75 year old man reminiscing about the good old days of George Washington and the Constitution to lead America into the future?

Paul's supporters grow in number each day.

For some reason when you posted that I got the "Empire" music from Star Wars stuck in my head.

That's great, or something, but really... Really... I have a part of me [small part? possibly] that has me thinking... What Americans want a 75 year old man reminiscing about the good old days of George Washington and the Constitution to lead America into the future? The American populace is looking for progress and modernization. We want America to be vibrant and alive. Ron Paul just doesn't offer that. He's conservative on social issues meaning he won't even appeal to a lot of civil libertarians (as I would call myself). The only libertarian qualifications he is that separate him from the pack are opposing the war and PATRIOT Act and torture. These issues are simply not prominent concerns for Americans right now. Americans want to restore economic prosperity and finally reach equality. Paul just doesn't have the set of views that appeal to this group.

Please oh please let the Republicans nominate Ron Paul in 2012. That would be one for the ages.

Yeah, it'd be hilarious to see Obama lose to a 75 year old man. Cheesy

Ron Paul is probably the only potential Republican candidate that's less electable than Sarah Palin.

LOL

Paul would have defeated Obama in 2008, and he could do so in 2012.

Like him or not, he was the only completely legitimate conservative in the running.

He's certainly sincere, I can't deny, but he makes Kucinich look electable.

Um, no. Paul is far more electable than Kucinich.

Okay, about as electable. Both appeal to a vocal fringe element of their party.

Uh, Palin declined an invitation to speak at CPAC.

So why is it surprising that Romney did better?  The crowd at CPAC isn't her base.

Here is a 4 hour+ video from CPAC:

http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/02/20/HP/R/29840/CPAC+wraps+up+annual+meeting.aspx

If you skip ahead to the 3hour 7min mark, you can see them unveiling the straw poll results, including all the boos.

2007 CPAC straw poll:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPAC_Straw_Poll

Mitt Romney-21%
Rudy Giuliani-17%
Sam Brownback-15%
Newt Gingrich-14%
John McCain-12%

Oh, and George Allen won the 2006 straw poll, w/ McCain a close 2nd place.

Nope.  He didn't show up at CPAC until 2008.

Glenn Beck was speaking prior to that (or maybe after) and the Paul supporters weren't planning on watching Beck because of his treatment of Debra Medina. So there were plenty of Romney and few Paul supporters in the room when the were reading the results.

As far Obama vs. Paul, how's that change working out, particularly with the war in Iraq?

Ron Paul supporters lopsided the poll.  Mainstream conservatives don't believe in the Constitution or the founding principals they claim to stand for.

Where's Gary Johnson?

Seriously, though, this is bad news for CPAC. I'd have just chopped 25% off his total if I were running the thing.

Really, its bad news for someone other than a neocon to win a CPAC straw poll? Huh
