I think Giuliani would have been the only Republican who did. It appears he isn't going to run, and even if he did, I'd say Cuomo would still be a slight favorite.

He is already showing impressive self-restraint in terms of not sticking his head out of the rose garden so far.

Its not like his wife slept with another man, cheated on him, and then left him.

Its better to get that out of the way before becoming governor.

What the hell.

New York politics is sick.

I bet Cuomo is corrupt too. Nor are the Republicans likely any better. They all have skeletons in their closets. The only question is what comes out and when.

Hopefully, until December.  No unelected Lt. Governor should ever become Governor when the NYS Constitution doesn't specifically allow for an appointment to that position.  The NYS Court of Appeals decided wrongly.

The NYT allegations are based on anonymous sources and aren't as clear cut as the newspaper claims.  While the NYT claims there may be an attempt to influence the alleged victim, there may really have been just an attempt to find out the facts and get ahead of the NYT's story.

The NYT ain't exactly the Enquirer.

The latter explanation offered by cinyc falls outside of the bounds of the story as reported by the NYT. Either these sources are wrong, and the NYT is wrong for relying on them, or this latter explanation, which has no evidence to support it whatosever, is wrong.

I think it's obvious that Paterson won't be able to function as Governor, regardless of whether he is officially in the position or not. As such, it would be clearly in the best interest of NYS for him to go. And I say this as someone who was defending him just a couple days ago.

The NYT ain't exactly the Enquirer.

You're right.  The Enquirer has a heck of a lot of more credibility regarding political scandals than the New York Times.  The New York Times prints rumor, innuendo and double hearsay from anonymous sources.  The Enquirer prints the truth, with pictures.

It absolutely doesn't.  Buried in the NYT story is that the NYT's anonymous source claims Paterson's press secretary claims she attempted to contact the alleged victim the day before the New York Times said it would print a story about the alleged abuser.  The NYT's anonymous source also claims Paterson's press secretary wasn't aware of and didn't think Paterson was aware of the alleged severity of the alleged victim's injuries at the time of the attempted phone call.    The NYT's anonymous source claims Paterson's press secretary never actually spoke to the alleged victim.  In other words, Paterson's press secretary was quite possibly trying to do the same thing the NYT was - speak with the alleged victim to gather the facts.

There are two sides to every story, and quite frankly, the NYT is only giving one - that most friendly to Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Democratic Party's blatant attempt to run Paterson out of town.   The NYT should not be entitled to manufacture its own scandal to run politicians out of office.

Absent proof of criminal wrongdoing on his part, Paterson will be able to function as Governor.  And it's not in the best interest of New York for some unelected Lt. Governor appointee unconstitutionally foisted upon us by a dubious court decision to become governor.  The temporary president of the Senate should become governor if Paterson resigns.  That's Malcolm Smith.

Yeah, but it's for less than a year and Ravitch couldn't possibly be worse than Paterson. I would hope.
