The Treasurer office was abolished in 1995 or 96.

Perry was elected Lt.Governor in 1998, defeating John Sharp who was Comptroller.  And Bob Bullock had been Lt.Governor, Dan Morales AG, and Garry Mauro Land Commissioner.

The Republicans swept in 1998.

Is Dan Morales still in jail?
He was release in 2007, and was under supervised released until March 30, 2010.  Last fall there were news reports of the terms of his supervised release being modified to prevent him from having contact with his ex-wife, with whom he has a son.  They were divorced while he was in prison, but lived together for a while after his release.

Incidentally, Morales ran against Tony Sanchez for the 2002 Democratic nomination for governor.  After he lost, he endorsed Rick Perry.

I find it ironic that I only like 3 governors who served very long terms, Tommy Thompson, Hoeven and Perry.

You've missed Gov "Big Jim" Thompson of IL. He served 14 years from 1977 until 1991. He served 4 full terms, but the first was only two years long since the 1970 constitution mandated a switch to gubernatorial elections away from presidential years.

Yep, but still not 16 (four full terms) like Edwards, Wallace, Rhodes, Branstad etc.

Our's was only a bit over 10 years... Rudy Perpich, and they weren't consecutive.  He served from late 1976-1979 and again from 1983-1991.

Well, in California, we could have Brown for another 8 years...

Richard Lamm and Roy Romer, both Democrats, served as back-to-back three term Governors of Colorado. Lamm served from 1975-1987, and Romer served from 1987-1999. There was only one other three term Governor, Democrat Billy Adams (1927-1933), but at the time terms were only two years in length.

It isn't the same thing at all, but Roy Oldham has been the Leader of Tameside council (area immediately east of Manchester; old textile towns and industrial suburbs. Population of a little over 200,000) for thirty years.

As far as the devolved institutions created in the late 90s (which directly compare to U.S states), the longest serving head of any (so far) was Rhodri Morgan (First Minister of Wales for nearly ten years). Going back to now-abolished levels of regional government (Ulster until the early 70s and London until the mid 80s), there were two very long serving Prime Ministers of Northern Ireland; James Craig (Viscount Craigavon) for nineteen years and Basil Brooke (Viscount Brookeborough) for almost twenty. The longest serving head of London government was the last Leader of the LCC; Ike Hayward, who was in charge for eighteen years. None of the GLC leaders lasted more than six years and only one was ever re-elected.

Now Brandstad is going for his fifth term. That would make him a Governor for 20 years if he serves it out.
