Are there any liberal activists threatening Kucinich and Grijalva with a primary challenge over this, or do they get a pass because they're against it for "noble reasons"?

They almost certainly get a pass.

The liberal base would agree anyway - it's a shame that Obama didn't even put single-payer out there as a possibility for the Republicans to rip into.  We know they are going to call it socialism and obstruct passage regardless of what the bill actually contains, so why begin by compromising half of your side in the first place?

I was thinking about this the other day. If they had started out with single-payer, knowing it wouldn't pass, and then went for a public option as a compromise, they may have had more success with moderate Dems and Republicans.

The response to Grijalva's comments on Daily Kos was about 90% fury, so they aren't "getting a pass" from most Kossacks. Politics in his district being what they are, the practical opportunities for unseating him are nil, though.

That's my first reaction, but reading Grijalva's comments, I think he's just positioning himself for negotiating against Obama's nifty Republican ideas unveiled this week, and won't be the last vote against reform. I have to hope so. He hasn't closed the door on the bill and I have to believe he's not trying to lose this one.

I don't think so as the moderates would've forced it into the position it is right now, even if we did start out with single-payer.  It's just too left for them.

Good. Healthcare for all Americans has been the raison d'etre of the Democratic Party for over 50 years now.

Yeah, when are they actually going to get around to doing that? It seems all the Democrats have been focused on the past few months is getting this corporate insurance exec enrichment scheme passed.

Pelosi rarely fails to come up with the votes.  I'm not sure how she does what she does.

I wonder what the actual percentage of the nay voting legislators actually believe the bill will cause more harm than good.

I was shocked that she was able to pass the cap and trade bill last summer.  Only 210 Democrats voted for it.  She was only able to get passage by convincing eight Republicans to vote for it.

What now?  The health care mafia of drug companies, insurance companies, and HMOs are no part of the ruling class?

You're overestimating, my friend.  Remember when the "hard deadline" was last August?

Yeah I know....and maybe I'm hopelessly naive.....but I really can't imagine Democrats being quite that stupid to run against the wall again if they can't back it up.

I tend to think like Franzl. Maybe it's just another delusion, but I wan't to think that there's still some hope in America.
