Uh, no. I prefer Richmond. Even in NOVA my favorite part is the urban part, like Alexandria, which obviously isn't where he is from. I'm just wondering how any remotely Democratic-leaning area can elect such an extreme far right fascist.

Uh, being against abortion, gay marriage, and affirmative action does not automatically make someone an extreme far right fascist. I'm against all those things and I'm not a fascist (I had relatives who died in the Holocaust, so watch your language).

The Dem lean of the 37th is kind of misleading; the district is drawn to maximize be very polarized. The parts around Burke are Dem-leaning, while the western parts are Republican. Cuccinelli was also very personally charismatic, despite being a firebreathing conservative. Up until his recent antics, he's managed to keep his extremely right-wing views under a friendly mask. And he had a terrible opponent in 2007.

Also, this is why I'm expecting Republicans to take over the Senate in 2011:

SD-1:  John Miller(D) R+7
SD-17:  Ed Houck(D) R+9
SD-20:  Bill Reynolds(D) R+12
SD-29:  Charles Colgan(D) R+4
SD-38:  Phil Puckett(D) R+11

Colgan's district is gone when he retires (as he will probably do in 2011 - he's ridiculously old and has served for eight terms), so Republicans just need to beat one of the other four.

Colgan’s district was carried by Obama and is based on increasingly Democratic leaning Prince William county.  Also keep in mind that the political climate will be far better for Democrats then as public anger will shift to Republicans as they try to repeal healthcare and make draconian cuts to Social Security and Medicare.  This kind of stuff will not be popular in areas like this.  This will likely be enough to also put those Democratic leaning Delegate districts like the one Comstock holds and the Prince William district(51 I think) that Democrats lost in 2009.  Every one of these Republicans will see their face morphed into John Boehner or Eric Cantor in Democratic ads.
