Opening of the 112th Congress
-US Senate-
Joe Biden:
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
John McCain:
I do.
McCain walks away, letting the next Senator-elect take the oath. He moves over to an empty desk, and rests his arm upon it.
Thinking to himself:
It's good to be back to the Senate. Last year was really a close one, I just barely defeated that nutjob Hayworth in the Primary, and then only won by three points against Gabrielle Giffords. That's down from 76% in 2004!
I don't think I can do that again, yep, this is going to be my last term in the Senate. But still, I'm longing for the White House, but I can't take down President Obama, he could have creamed me in 2008, who knows about 2012? But what if he didn't run? I don't know, I've heard rumors, but I don't won't to start a whole campaign on speculation.
Al Franken:
Excuse me, John, I need to get to my desk.
McCain:
Oh, sorry, Al.
John walked away, still thinking...

Governor Bobby Jindal holds a rally in front of several hundred people in Baton Rouge, Louisiana...
For the past several years, it hasn't been clear to the voters which party is the conservative party. America didn’t stop being conservative, they felt like the Republican Party stopped being conservative. To too many voters, too many folks believed that both parties wanted to increase the size of government. Many folks believed both parties wanted to increase spending, wanted to drive our country into debt. Many folks didn’t think there was much of a difference between the parties on taxes. And my friends, those folks are right. It's high time that the Republican party becomes a party of big ideas, not big government. And my friends, we need a leader strong enough to be able to convey that message to the American people during the General election. My friends, I believe that I am that leader, and that is why I am pleased to announce that I will seek the 2012 Republican nomination for President of the United State of America! Together, we can achieve greatness. Thank you, God Bless you all, and God Bless America!

NBC News Announcer: This is a NBC News Special report, here is Lester Holt.
Holt: Good afternoon, we come on the air to announce a major surprise for next year's presidential election. Former Vice President Al Gore has announced his intentions to run for the Democratic Nomination, which was not expected, and is a blow to President Obama's intentions for reelection. Let's go to Nashville Tennessee where Al Gore will give his announcement speech.
Gore: Thank you, ladies and Gentleman. Today i would like to announce that i am running for the Democratic nomination for President in 2012. I, and many others feel that America is not in a great place as it should be. the economy is still in recession, our foreign policy is regarded as a joke on the world stage, and our government is not doing as much as it should be. I intend to change that, through a great campaign that reaches out to the people. Thank you very much.
Holt: We are now back in the studio, i am here with our Political director Chuck Todd. Chuck, how does this affect the president's plans?
Todd: It is a major blow to the President's plans, he was looking forward to an empty field, now he will have to heavily campaign. It will be a tough one for the president.
Holt: Thank you chuck. We now return to regular programming stay tuned to MSNBC for updates. Have a good day.

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Meet the Press
David Gregory:
Governor Cuomo, thanks for being here.
Andrew Cuomo:
It's a pleasure, David.
David Gregory:
Alright, I have some important policy questions to ask, but I feel I have to ask another question first.
Andrew Cuomo:
*laughs* I think I know the question, go ahead.
David Gregory:
Since your election in 2010, people have called gone as far as to call you the presumptive Democratic nominee in 2016. You are among the most popular Governors in the country. So, I ask you, with President Obama's decision, are you running for President?
Andrew Cuomo:
Well, we're not gonna rush into things, and I wouldn't go as far as to say we are running. However, yes, I do expect to form an exploratory committee shortly. Obviously, I would first have to make some calls to President Obama, Vice President Biden, and others to see their positions. However, if the cards are played right, I will be running.
David Gregory:
There you have it. Alright, moving on to policy.
Andrew Cuomo:
*laughing* Thank God. I never thought I'd be happy to talk policy on Meet the Press.
David Gregory:
*laughing* Well, it doesn't happen often. Now, during your time as Attorney General...

Governor Bobby Jindal launches his updated website,
www.bobbyjindal.com
. On the map, he outlines his "Road to the White House", which includes a map of all stops made by the Jindal campaign.
Thanks to the ingenuity and hard work of Americans, America has become very advanced in technology. And as you can see, my campaign is taking advantage of these advancements on our website. However, I think this nation can grow even more, which is why under a Jindal administration, more jobs will be created in the technology field, and we will give more money to researchers trying to develop easier ways for us to live our lives.

America has been going down the wrong path for two years now, we must stop this calamitous downward spiral of our country. We must reestablish our image as bringers of liberty and freedom around the world."
McCain's campaign announces the Senator plans to visit New Hampshire for a two day "meet and greet" in the coming days.

McCain releases his first TV Ad:
Announcer:
John McCain is fighting for your rights...
(Clip from McCain on the Senate floor)
McCain:
We cannot force this down American's throats, they DO NOT support this Bill, they DO NOT want this chamber to pass it (Slams bill onto desk).
Announcer:
John McCain is ready to lead. He's been in the United States Senate since 1987, and in that time, he's been fighting for our country. He's ready to lead, can the same thign really be said about Mitt Romney or Bobby Jindal? The answer is NO.
McCain:
I'm John McCain, and I approve this message.

Statement from the Jindal campaign on McCain's entrance
While we respect the many years the Senator has spent fighting for Americans on the Senate floor, he's had his shot at the Presidency. It's time for a more youthful candidate with fresh idea's, and that candidate is Bobby Jindal.

Response to Governor Jindall
We, of course, know that Senator McCain has already revived the nomination of the Republican Party, however, John's ideas are just as fresh as Governor Jindals. We also believe that the American people knew this in 2008, but were bamboozled by the Democrats, John is not about to stand around and let this happen again.

Statement from the Jindal campaign
How are we supposed to know if Romney cares about the right idea or not, when he changes his positions each time a new campaign rolls around? He claims to be against Obama's health care proposal, yet signed a bill very similar to it as Governor of Massachusetts. He campaigned as a pro-choice candidate in 1994 and 2002, yet when the 2008 election rolled around, he was suddenly pro-life. How can we put the fate of this country in the hands of a man who cannot make the tough decisions a President will have to make every day?

Press Release from Senator McCain:
I share Governor Jindal's concerns with Mitt Romeny. America does not need a candidate who cannot decided what he supports and what he doesn't. The plans I've put forward are right for America, and the American people know that, no mater what Governor Romney wants them to think.

The Jindal campaign has released it's first ad in the lead-off states...
Hello, my name is Bobby Jindal, and I'm running for President of the United State of America. Why am I running for President? First off, I am running for my three children. The America of today is going down a dark and dangerous path, and I want to leave my children with a better world than the one I had. I am also running for you, the ordinary American. It's time for big idea's, not big government. Lower taxes for the middle class, more affordable education oppurtunities, and alternative energy solutions are just several of the many plans that will be implemented under a Jindal administration. Join me in making this world a better place for all. Because when we are united as one, we can achieve greatness.

At a rally with Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Representatives Anthony Weiner and Carolyn Maloney, as well as his father Former Governor Mario Cuomo, Governor Andrew Cuomo announces his candidacy for the Presidency.
We have a lot of work today. However, I stand here today aware of the issues that matter today, humbled by the chance to fix those problems, and eager to get started. Together, we will make this nation a better and stronger place to live, and we will renew the American Dream.
BTW, hows the nation doing in this universe? Why didn't Obama run again? Is the world still pissed at Spitzer?

Statement from the Romney Campaign
Governor Jindal and Senator McCain have accused me a flip flopping on my postions, and that I can't make the right decisions for the American people. If they are supposedly so much better than me, why don't they spend as much time thinking about how to fix this country instead of how to attack me. I can make the right decisions for America because I don't change what I believe in just to win votes. My opponents may want you to think that, but that's not the truth.

Statement from the Jindal Campaign
If Governor Romney doesn't change what he believes in just to win votes, we ask that the Romney campaign please explain why pro-choice Romney suddenly became pro-life Romney right before the 2008 election, conveniently. This nation cannot afford Presidential leadership that comes in 23 different flavors.
Later that day, Governor Jindal releases part of his platform....
Abortion
: Pro-Life
Budget and Economy
: We must encourage investment in our low-to-moderate income areas. Also, we need to invest the retirement benefits for teachers & state workers. Eliminate porkbarrel spending, make cuts where cuts need to be made, and end the failing programs.
Civil Rights
: Marriage must be between one man and one woman.
Crime
: We must increase penalties for child predators and sex offenders. Capital Punishment should be an option for murder as well as rape.
Energy and Oil
: More renewables; more nuclear power, more drilling.
Environment:
We need more funding for hurricane protection & coastal restoration. We also must do a better job at protecting our endangered species.
Families and Children
: We must increase scrutiny & penalties for school child abuse.
Government Reform
: The strength of America is not in it's government, but in the hard working American people. Legilstators should be paid less
Homeland Security
: Now is not the time to cut spending for our troops.
Immigration
: A fence is needed. We must tighten our border security.
Jobs
: Revamp our workforce training programs.
Tax Reform
: We can create jobs by lowering tax rates for families & business. The federal tax rebate should be exempted from state income tax. Eliminate the permanent tax on business utilities, and speed up the elimination of the tax on capital debt. We also need to use vehicle taxes & license fees for transportation expenses.

This is CNN:
Governor Bobby Jindal has announced that he will still seek re-election for Governor, and he states that he is confident that he will be able to successfully run both campaigns at once. Governor Jindal spent the day holding a series of townhall events in South Carolina, as well as a couple meet and greets. South Carolina seems to be a heavy focus for the Jindal campaign.
