Definitely not. The last Republican Presidential candidate to do so was probably his father in 1988.

His father won a majority in 88 and 92. Dole also won a majority in 96.

What the hell happened to Asian republicans? You think that the humorous depictions of Asians in popular culture would be more attuned to the party.

Dole 96'.

Interestingly Clinton never won the Asian vote. Though I bet the trend/swing from 1992 to 1996 was fairly big.

Hm? They're sorta like the sort of Whites that Dems have recently gained most with... both in the cliche and in reality. Grin

What the hell happened to Asian republicans?

Cold War ended. Also, the younger generation of Asians often embraces social liberalism as a form of revolt.

I pretty much agree with this. During the Cold War, many Asians voted GOP due to the party's strong anti-Communism, but after the Cold War ended, many Asians felt the Democrats best protected their social and economic interests.

I pretty much agree with this. During the Cold War, many Asians voted GOP due to the party's strong anti-Communism, but after the Cold War ended, many Asians felt the Democrats best protected their social and economic interests.

Also, generally the rise of Christian conservatism in the GOP (and its concurrent decline among the Democrats) dramatically turned off those Asian groups that are predominantly non-Christian, even those who otherwise supported the Republicans. This is seen most prominently among the Chinese, who were once among the strongest Republican groups but are now more Democratic than any Asian group save the Japanese. (Obviously, the impact of this was less among the Filipinos [Catholics] and especially the Koreans [evangelical Christians], although the Protestant nature of the conservatism didn't help among Filipinos, and many Koreans maintain a lot of the wariness of overt religion despite their conversion to Christianity.)
