When are local elections finally going to be held in NI anyhow?

Next year.

They were supposed to be in 2009, but were put into abeyance by the Secretary of State on advice of the NI Executive.

The 27 local districts are being consolidated into 11 (IIRC) new districts, following a long review process that has been subject to various delays and re-reviews.

When 55% of district residents sign a recall petition.

And it turns out that the consolidation may require a few more years of consideration. Sigh.

I presume the elections will still go ahead next year though.
