The Yom Kippur War never occurs, thus Nixon doesn't need to save Israel and there is no OPEC oil embargo. Thus the U.S. economy never goes into a recession in 1974-1976. After Nixon resigns, Ford still pardons Nixon. However, the economy on election day 1976 is much better than in RL, with unemployment being 4% and inflation being 3% (in contrast to 8% unemployment and 5% inflation in RL). In 1976, the Dems still nominate Jimmy Carter, while the GOP nominates Ford as in RL (after Ford survives a tough primary challenge from Ronald Reagan). How would this election turn out? You pick the VPs. Discuss, with maps.

Ford narrowly wins due to the good economy.

Ford-279
Carter-255

Does Maine go to Ford? Also, your EV is incorrect since 279+255=534 while there are 538 EVs.

Ford-51.00%
Carter-49.99%

Despite a narrow EV win, Ford almost loses the popular vote.
