Considering the fact that you always have to subtract about 10% from the Black guy AL Whites favor in pre-election polls, I can call this race for Byrne right now, barring any scandal.
What was true about 1 year ago is still true today ...

Artur Davis sucks, and it's hilarious that his entire career of moderate heroism just so that he could one day become governor of Alabama will all be for naught.

His entire career of moderate heroism? I thought he only really started trekking to the right during this campaign.
I think it'd be pretty cool to see him win. He seems like a smart & ambitious guy, Harvard and Harvard Law and all that. And he's light years in front of the Alabama GOP candidates.
Even though Charlie Melancon is to the right of Nelson in Nebraska, I'd looooooouuuurrrve to see him make Vitter (one of the top 2 scumbags in the Senate) sweat.

No, he's been a moderate hero for a while. He came to talk here in 2008 before the election, and he spent most of his time talking about reducing the deficit and the need for a balanced budget and other empty moderate heroisms. He's also one of the leaders of the New Democratic Coalition.

Davis is an idiot and a joke yes. However one thing that makes me sad about this was he was the first member of Congress outside of Illinois to endorse Obama I believe.

I think they have a Harvard connection that made that easy for him.
Steve Cohen should have been all over that claim, he really dropped the ball there.

His candidacy for governor of Alabama was really wishful thinking in my opinion. He needs about a quarter of the white vote to win, which I don't see a black Democrat (no matter how moderate) getting in Alabama, yet. In 25-30 years, who knows?

Unfortunately, this is exactly what people said 25-30 years ago.

2010 simply isn't a good year to be running in Alabama with a (D) next to your name, regardless of race.

Agreed. In reality though, before a few months ago, Davis had the clear lead. The biggest thing that hurt him was voting against Health Care Reform, which may actually help him later on. Anyway, I wouldn't say give it up yet, as he still has an okay chance. I'm just hoping Moore doesn't win the GOP nomination, if so, that will be incredibly scary.
