Good, I'm glad you get it. But I see you don't get that insinuating racism and violence during those rallies is acceptable. It doesn't matter if you have a right to carry guns in public or a right to scream at the top of your lungs about needing to overthrow the government and starting a revolution, the message is clear. There's a difference between having a right to do a stupid thing, and actually doing that stupid thing.

Here, I'll write one of your comebacks right now for you. But they're only a small minority of the protesters!

What rhetoric? Would Rush Limbaugh calling the current administration a "regime" count as that?

Depends if you believe that inciters are equally responsible. Or if the sheep should take all the blame.

Well, Chris Mathews (who made the most hay over Rush calling it a "regime") called the Bush administation a "regime" in 2002 and the New York Times did at several points as well. Both sides have used inflammatory language. I would argue that the rhetoric against our troops in Iraq encouraged radical anti-War protestors to take violent actions.

Twelve percent of teabaggers think the health care bill was a good thing?  Wat.

Quote from: BRTD
which will result in them ending up in jail where they belong.

Oh yes, it's so Nazi-esque to think people threatening unarmed Census workers belong in jail.

Godwin's Law says I win.

"Teabag supporters" aren't teabaggers. Just a hint. When BRTD says teabaggers, he's talking about the ones who go to protests, meetings, and are members of militias. He's not talking about mainstream GOP members who sympathize with the teabaggers.

Whoa, it's awesome to see you back. Smiley

Ironic since that is a perfect spot on description of J. J.'s "debating".

Whatever, dude.  The fact is that according to Rasmussen, more Americans feel that the average tea partier understands them and their views better than the Democrat-controlled Congress and the President.  If that makes them "extreme", so be it.

The tea party movement is mainstream, not some fringe.  Denigrate and underestimate the movement at your own peril.

Cinyc is fine........poor Lief can't understand how real American might think the way the tea partiers do....it simply doesn't compute in the Kos/HuffPo/Soros world,

Huh? cinyc's poll numbers have nothing to do with the level of support the teabaggers have with American society as a whole. Just because they have a similar demographic profile as the rest of the country doesn't mean that those groups on a wider scale support the movement. That's like saying the Church of Scientology has a similar demographic make-up as the rest of the country and therefore is widely supported.

Right... and I'm saying that using that first table as "evidence" of that doesn't make sense.

It was an interesting comparison you have to admit.......and my point still stands that the left cannot accept that these are mainstream people not some kookie scientology type fringe....oh they have they're share of kooks but what party/movement doesn't.

But tea partiers are slightly richer than average Americans?  I thought they were a bunch of dumb, government-hating, America-hating, unemployed poors who want to fly airplanes into buildings and join Christian militias (*cough* the only militia member who had a party status was a Democrat *cough*).

The above is a pretty awesome counter punch. Just saying. Smiley

Nah, Gramps. People want to identify with the tea partiers because they are pissed as hell towards both parties, and Obama to a lesser extent. Just check out the approval ratings of both parties. Republicans are actually doing a bit worse than Democrats. The tea party offers another option to people who are rightly pissed off at everyone. But when it comes time to vote, they are not going to vote for crazy rightwingers who want to get rid of the ADA or the CRA or other popular programs like Medicare.

"Get the goddamned gubmint outta ma MEDICARE!!!!! GRRRR". That's the tea party motto isn't it? Tongue

Just because the tea partiers are mainstream in their demographics does not mean that they are mainstream in their ideology or socio-economic status, as these charts from that same Gallup article points out:

The tea party is a conservative movement?  Duh!  More tea partiers are self-described Republicans and Independents?  Duh!  More tea partiers are male?  Yeah, so are conservatives and Republicans - no shock there.

But tea partiers are slightly richer than average Americans?  I thought they were a bunch of dumb, government-hating, America-hating, unemployed poors who want to fly airplanes into buildings and join Christian militias (*cough* the only militia member who had a party status was a Democrat *cough*).

Face facts - tea partiers are a cross-section of America by age, educational status and employment status, and pretty close on socioeconomic status.  But they're slightly more male and less black.

Extremist meme FAIL.

I'm sorry but this is flat out stupid and makes no sense whatsoever. What point you tried to make by saying they mirror demographics is totally pointless and yet you try to completely dismiss something that shows totally different priorities from the broader population.

Trying to suggest that the tea party movement's (unfounded) fears about taxes or government control are a mainstream broadly popular movement is absurd in light of what Lief posted, and what you posted is entirely irrelevant.
