We don't actually have any Seattleites, lol.

I've recently have undergone some discussion with a friend of mine over a potential job prospect in the Seattle area.

I've spent the majority of my life in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a short stint in San Jose, CA (I pretty much voted in the 2003/04 elections and bounced).  I've been considering a return out to the WC, but I've found the price and overall economic situation of California impractical.  Washington looks interesting and I could use a fresh start.

My questions are kind of broad and generic... is Seattle a fun city?

Define "fun"

More expensive than NM, less than San Jose, I'd imagine...

There aren't very many families in the city... Those that are tend to be wealthy and send their kids to private school, or are poor minorities, generally speaking...

Eh, the bus system is decent. Seattle's really only just starting its rail system.

No, but it's cloudy a lot during the winter. It tends to bother people from sunny areas.

I'd lean towards no, honestly...

Eh close enough.  I would've asked you guys if this job were in Portland, too. Wink

I enjoy vibrant downtown area. Fancy restaurants and bars and lots of them. Sports.

I also enjoy doing a lot of thinking in parks and I've found libraries to be a good work environment.  So, a good quality parks & rec and public library would be nice.  Or colleges nearby that would provide for such.

Thanks for your input.  I probably won't go through with this, but I just thought I'd bring it up.

I hear Seattle has beautiful weather.  You should move there for that.

I have a pipe dream of moving there, going to the University of Washington, and living in an apartment for the rest of my life, that's relatively cheap but in a safe area.  I hear that Seattle is, overall, a pretty safe city.  Clean too, and good (at least, IMHO) weather.  Not at all like L.A.  Tacoma, on the other hand...

I've never been, but all my second hand anecdotal evidence points to a good place to live, with good people and the weather isn't as bad is people make it out to be.  I think Seahawk fans are whiners and need to let Super Bowl XL go, but there only four of five in the entire world so it's not like you'll run into one very often.Smiley

Been to Seattle, except for the horrendous hell the airlines put you through to get there from Pittsburgh, I loved it.

I don't know anyone who lives here who complains about it, and everyone I know who left it/went away for college seems to miss it slightly more than others. I think pretty much anyone could be happy here. There's such a diversity of things to do and communities to be a part of.

Really? Granted, the Eastside (and especially the Plateau) is full of ex-Californians and their OC-wannabe kids, but I still find that hard to believe...

I mean I've probably met someone at some point. But no one I know springs to mind as someone who doesn't like living there.

It's changed a lot recently (and I mean that legitimately and not in the Department of Tourism way).

I like Portland better. In some ways, I think Portland is the most agreeable city in which to live in the US, particularly if you have kids to raise.
